I have been taking Citalopram (Celexa) 40mg for 16 years daily for anxiety. My Dr said I could try Escitalopram (Lexapro) as my anxiety has got worse......Is Escitalopram known to be better for anxiety than Citalopram and if I swap over could I say take 30mg Citalopram and 5mg Escitalopram for say a week, then 20mg Cip' and 10mg Escit' for another week then 20mg Escit' and drop the Cit'?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Afaik escitalopram is just the eutomer (the chiral enantiomer with pharmacological activity) of citalopram. So citalopram is a racemate, meaning it's a mixture of the active and inactive enatiomer, while escitalopram is just the active enatiomer, imo escitalopram is just stronger (meaning you have to take less, because it's just active ingredient versus active+inactive ingredient), but has the same effects as citalopram
