China doesn't need the one child policy anymore because they are implementing the social credit system. If you get a low social credit score, then you won't be able to function in society, and raising a family would be impossible. Their social credit system will ensure an even higher level of conformity and less resistance. To me, this is far more frightening than the one child policy ever was. They really are about to become 1984 over there.

As for WWIII with China and the other stuff you said... that's all a fantasy fueled by the old fears of the Red Tide. China is unstoppable. All of our manufacturing is there, and despite Trump's browbeating, we are utterly beholden to China. If they banned U.S. manufacturing tomorrow, or dumped the trillions in U.S. treasury bonds that they own, the U.S. would enter another Great Depression literally overnight. They invested in us, we invested in them, all for short term gain. Now our economies are stagnating and the end is nigh. China is building fake, empty cities to artificially prop up their GDP, and the U.S. is trying to implement tariffs to undo the horrible mistake they made to domestic business. It's too late... we are screwed.

The U.S. is now a waning power. It still has military might but its influence is diminishing. It squandered all of its power and resources on private interests in the Middle East. China's Belt and Road initiative will permit it to become an even more formidable economic force. I don't think people realize just how big China is about to become, and without engaging in a single war. All they had to do was form economic treaties and partnerships with all the countries that the west has shunned for ideological, humanitarian or political reasons. China says... we don't care how we treat your people, we just want to do business. Now they have treaties with corrupt countries that are renting them land and ports for 99 years.

China is smart, and they don't have the same humanitarian strictures that we have. It's why they're winning. I'm not saying I support this. After living in that shithole of a country, I actually dread a world where Chinese culture becomes dominant. I want to see western institutions remain in control, but with major reforms. Calling for war with China is part and parcel with the simple-minded stupidity that the western corporate media is selling the public. The issues are actually far, far more complex.

Very well said. I've seen a lot of Americans actually buy into Trump's whole tariff war with China as if all this stupid shit like stopping Huawei from using Google software will actually make China's economy collapse or some shit... they hail this as some kind of victory for the US when if anything they've done more damage to American companies like Google and Qualcomm than Huawei.

And in the meantime China have continued to silently increase their "soft power" in the US by for example effectively buying Hollywood without most people even noticing.

China has defeated the U.S. at its own capitalist game. You know why? Because Americans will sell out their own country for MONEY.

Now the Chinese own a lot of the prime real estate and Americans are becoming housing serfs in their own backyards. The irony is incredible.

That's the problem with rampant capitalism and putting money as #1 above everything else. The values that are supposed to protect communities, economies and cultures become second rate.

This is exactly how China is buying out Hollywood and I'm sure it applies to many other elements of their economic dealings with the US too. You're right the strong capitalist nature of the US is very short-sighted. If they can make a quick buck they will. No one thinks about the pretty obvious consequences until the deal is done.

The problem will be ignored because it benefits the people in power, until a point when it causes destabilizing conflict and the U.S. deals with it like they deal with everything else: by starting a war.

saldy this is what happened in NZ the Chinese destroyed our house market. Now the average house costs over $600k USD for a shit house and a few million for a nice house in cities. And rural towns even their houses cost $500k. No one can work anymore and buy a house the new generations are completely fucked and rent is more than 50-70% of our wages.

I work pretty regularly in international trade between Asia and North America and mostly what comes from China is raw materials, food, and manufactured goods. China is still trying to transition from a 'second world' economy to a 'first world' economy. That hasn't happened yet so I think its premature to declare a Chinese victory. Also there's a huge imbalance between males and females in China because of the one child policy so there's millions of angry Chinese men out there who aren't getting laid.

Chinas one child policy was removed 5 years ago. They are well and truly a first world economy they are the best economy in the world and their growing middle class is super rich. Chinas poverty rate was reduced greatly since the 80s. China dominates trade everywhere and their own middle class wealth to buy goods is also improving it. China is a super power that is expanding but their millarty tech is is not as good as america

Sorry but that's not reality.

Its the same here in Oz.is n.z. really that expensive? A couple of million here gets u a penthouse in a fancy building.except in Sydney where there's a suburb where a tiny shoe box costs a million bucks.

Which part is not reality? It is a fact that China has a rapidly growing middle class whose wealth is driving up significant demand for luxury goods from brands such as Rolex, Mercedes-Benz, and Apple. Do you know why Apple started making gold iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks? Because they sell in China. If you follow watch hobbyist forums you will see that getting a Rolex brand new at RRP these days is basically impossible, because they're all going to China. China is also second only to Europe as the biggest market for Mercedes and other luxury German cars, and China is the reason that Mercedes, Audi, BMW have all made long wheelbase models - often these are sold only in China because they like long cars over there.

And going back to my comments on Hollywood, the reason China has been able to take control of it is because as of next year they will have the biggest box office in the whole world, bigger than the US, driven by the increasing middle class cinema goers, and obviously Hollywood producers want a part of that market. So China has been able to control the content of American films so they get past the censor, and they have bought out US production companies to create China friendly films, which Hollywood is happy to work with because they just want money.

You can look all this up for yourself if you don't believe me, it is not really a matter for debate that China has a very strong and still expanding middle class, and might I add at the same time as the American middle class is shrinking.

This is not to say China is some kind of haven, certainly I would not want to live in a totalitarian state under the social credit system, but the fact is they do have a stronger and more rapidly expanding economy than the US right now.

A war between US and China has been brewing for a while now, every body knows. People are so ignorant, I was kinda hoping a missile would land and wipe everybody out. It would be quick, you wouldn't feel it anyway.

Wow good morning to you too.

There are more people living on less than $6.50 a day in China than the entire population of the United States. As for the shrinking middle class, that is happening all throughout developed countries, its not isolated to the USA.

China also has a much larger population than the US. I am not claiming their middle class makes up the majority of their population, only that it's rapidly growing and has great spending power as is evidenced by the huge boom in sales of many luxury goods from China in the past few years alone.

You are right that the middle class shrinking is not only happening in the US, but we are comparing the US and China here are we not? Fact is China is experiencing the exact opposite right now.

Shouldn't China be experiencing a growing middle class given where it is in terms of economic development? It's economy hasn't matured like USA and Western Europe. I think the communist party needs to keep growing the Chinese middle class and raising people out of poverty or they are going to have problems governing the country more than they already do. One effect will be that a lot more Chinese wealth will be available for Chinese to invest in companies and real estate in the rest of the world. Housing in developed countries is getting more expensive relative to incomes, and manufacturing is moving to lower cost countries, so the middles class is getting squeezed pretty hard these days. The increase in the share Americans that are 'lower class' over the past 10 years or so is something like 25-30% I think.

China has no problem governing. The people are watched and recorded and brainwashed into following their leader. Han chinese are loyal to themselves and will kill off everybody else in china til they only they remain. China is super rich in the cities while rural areas are in poverty. With a population of 1.3 billion a small percent of course leads to a big number
