After talking with another Bluelighter, I thought this might be a decent thread idea. Maybe we could all post links for the various soup kitchens, clothing giveaways, shelters, etc. for our various cities.

Many of us have been in tight spots and certainly most of us know someone who may be in need so lets post some info. As people contribute I will organize by location and service so it will be more useful navigation-wise for a different kind of 'quick fix'.

There's some homeless shelters in Oklahoma City,

http://www.cityrescue.org - shelter and recovery programs

www.jesushouseokc.org - inner city non-denominational Christian outreach. Has shelter, clothing, counseling, and services for addiction.
http://www.jesushouseokc.org/progs_services.asp-Information about the shelter (rules, etc.) It's seems like they have AA meetings on site, plus services to get you immediate help with you addiction.

Please add to our list. We'll make it prettier as we get more input

Great thread idea OD! I'm heading to bed here, but I'll try to add some local stuff in the morn.

Maybe I'm biased now..... but please do NOT include the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. The way they treat people is outright criminal.

If I were a luckier man, I'd sue the everliving dogshit out of that state-sponsored racket.

The county detox-center people have more compassion than the CCH sociopaths who somehow pass as "social workers".

There is a charity called Christians In Action that has helped my family in the past when we were too poor to make it without help. I know they have locations in several towns in Texas and they operate homeless shelters and help the homeless to find work or odd jobs.

The homeless shelter in Paris, Texas caught fire several years ago and a number of people died. They were temporarily shut down for investigation and then there was a very cold winter weather system. They could have still provided some shelter if they had been allowed, but they were not and a homeless man froze to death in a culvert with only newspapers for blankets. I think the place in Paris is operating again and I know they have a place in San Angelo, TX.

Here is the website: http://www.christians-in-action.com/tindex.htm

I'm not religious, but they will help anyone they can. I don't know what the homeless shelters are like as I have never needed to use one. They also provide food for the needy.

I've had homeless people from there do work for me in the past and given donations as well, trying to repay them for the help they've given in the past.

Here is a link to the fire news story: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-01-05-shelter-fire_N.htm

They could still use donations as they have not finished rebuilding and do not have enough space for everyone who needs a place to stay.

Here is the location of the Paris, TX branch and a phone number you can call if you want to hire someone from the shelter:

Christians In Action said:
MARTIN SCHUTTE

The Men's Director
Martin runs the Shelter for the men. To hire the men at the shelter call 903-784-6857 set it up with Martin

THE NEW SHELTER IS AT 248 2ND S.W. WHAT WE NEED IN PARIS IS A 20 BED SHELTER AFTER INSTALLING SPRINKLER SYSTEM AT THE COAST OF 10.000.00 ITS TAKING NEARLY ALL OUR FUNDS PLEASE HELP WITH THIS IF YOU CAN ALL DONATION ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE WE NEED A 4000 SQUARE BUILDING THE ONE WE HAVE NOW IS 2,300.00 WE NEED TO ADD 2000 SQUARE FT

Maybe someone in the area will read this and be able to help or get help if needed.

More people need to post here - this is a great thread idea but very few responses.
