Butterfly Setup for IV Cocaine

Would using a butterfly IV setup (27g) be a poor idea for IV cocaine use? The general thought here is that it would only require one stick and repeated doses could be injected through the line. The worry would be that cocaine is vasoconstricting and multiple doses could cause damage to the vein. People that IV cocaine tend to look like pin cushions after awhile and this could potentially alleviate some of that. First post so pardon any ignorance and thanks in advance!

Yeah.. probably. If you were planning on leaving it in for more than a few minutes as angio catheters (IV's) require flushing with saline and "locking" with Heparin if left in place for any period of time with out a positive flow. Blood tends to clot in the line/needle if used intermittently and not cleared which makes it a bit risky for the gained convenience. Not to mention the line clamps, luer-loks and check valves that a decent set up would require.

You could get a clot if you leave it in for too long, I wouldn't go for very long

You would be better off with a pic line, I dont iv but have used butterfly needles for heroin just to not od in the morning, its not a good idea though

Probably if somebody knew what they were doing....how to work it.

Exactly

Thanks for great advice everyone. Sounds like single use is OK but not worth leaving it in for any period of time. Really appreciate the responses!
