Hmm I wish I never read this thread, I had completely forgotten about running into inspectors without a ticket, and moved shortly after and never recieved any fine.

But after looking at that website trancegirle posted I rang the number for 'lost fines' and Ive got a $230 fine due 3 months ago lol.

oh and forever_young thx for making me laugh, make some more threads pls!

I can't believe people are taking the moral highground on this one though, ffs, I'm sure everyone has hopped a tram at one time or another...I know I definitely have, and I hardly think it makes me evil incarnate.

Huni...it's not about taking the moral high ground. It's about accepting the consequences of ones actions. Eg: you get on a tram, train etc (doesn't matter how shit the service is) you STILL have to pay because you are using it. If you get caught you PAY the fine because you didn't buy a ticket. I have NEVER not bought a metlink ticket. It doesn't make me superior to people who don't either. It just means that when i did get fined i got off because it was an innocent mistake.

I do agree melbournes PT is shit and that the transport officers do over abuse their power BUT i have had numerous conversations with nice officers who open train doors for me and laugh with me and are nice. Is it because i have a validated ticket? Probably...but i don't give them grief. There has been times when i have been on a train late at night and dodgy people are on the same carriage and the inspectors have made me feel safe.

There are lots of things that could improve pt in melbourne...$150 is the same fine in a few others states as far as im aware.

COTB:It's the other way around, dude. You pay for the services you use. Whether they're acceptable or not.
You use, you pay.

Exacty my point. If you use a service...you pay for it. It may be shit but you still use it. Sure the Gov is probly making loads of revenue off the fines...but if you do something illegal and get caught you either pay the fine or come to some arrangement.

It does suck that the service for which we pay is bad...but it's a nessessity for some and we HAVE to use it every day. Bitching and moaning won't fix the trains, trams or buses. Not paying fines won't either!

DC:Receive your fine
Final notice to pay up
Court Summons
Warrant for arrest

Your call.....

The most simplest way to say it.

Get a bike.

Or, get a car (after you get your money back from the casino that is), fill it up with petrol then drive away from the service station without paying! Heaps fun! Beats fare-evading any day =D

y did u ring them?
did u want to pay the fine or sumthing?
i thought it was due 8-9 months ago?

anyway, i just found out yesterday the other 2 of the 4 fines i got r 211 each. thats the going rate for repeat offenders i think. so all together i have to pay $738, jackpot

i didnt know fine evasion ended up on ur credit history, r any of u speaking from experience or just guessing? i also evaded an ambulance fee for when i got taken to the hospital by saying im leaving the country, would that be on my credit history now then?

When you get taken to the debt collectors and don't pay it goes instantly on your credit history. Your credit history isn't just for loan reports etc...its for everytime you dont pay up and get taken to the collection agency.

Set up a payment plan or your history will fuck you for the next 7yrs....no car loans no nothing...all over a bunch of fines you let get out of control...

Avoiding the matter will only make it worse. They are generally more happy to get it lil by lil in repayments than nothing at all.

I don't think there's much need for this thread to remain open, not in the least because it's 12.39 and I haven't had my power fix for the day!

f_y: It's fairly obvious the message that is being sent here, even people supporting your fare evasion agree the fine has to be paid.

Time to flex my e-muscles...pow!
