The Anti-P.L.U.R. rant taken from the webpage:

Welcome to the Anti-P.L.U.R. homepage. This is the page dedicated to the realization that the P.L.U.R. plaguing out scene now is fake, empty, and solely for looks. We here at the Anti-P.L.U.R. page want ravers to unite and come together against the Peace Love Unity Respect falsity and untie under the new P.L.U.R.. Please Let Us Rave. The new P.L.U.R. stands as a motto for every raver who wants to speak out against the gun totting, drug slinging, look at me cause I am cool, I'm here cause it's rebellious, asses that have infesting our glorious scene and are slowly driving the scene that we love to it's death. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Are these the things you wish had never come about in our scene, or do you find yourself to be one of these Peace Love Unity Respect kiddies?

Anyone who takes the time to look around at the scene can see it. I am not saying that we need to get rid of the drugs. The drugs in the scene aren't the actual problem, though lets be honest, we all have to admit that alot of problems do come to play because of or with the help of drugs. Cleaning the drugs from our scene's veins is not going to help the heart. We all have to come together and realize that the Underground rave culture was not started, nor was it ever meant to be: a haven for slinging, fashion show runway, or a way to show your ass in rebellion to the system. The Underground came about as an expression of who we were as a group. True in the beginning there was Peace Love Unity and Respect. But, that was because as a general rule 'ravers' were an open minded group. We knew that all of us were different but when we were in the clubs, warehouses, fields, houses, anywhere we could squeeze into before the cops showed up... we were all the same... Kids out to have a good time, listen to our types of music, and express who we are simply by the way that we moved our bodies.

How many of you out there have ever had to go through checkpoints to get to a party? Do you remember back then the sense of unity that you felt, or the general air of respect for one an another once you were there? Of course you do that is because it was there... but the thing is it was natural. No one really went around spouting off about the PLUR and shit. The feeling didn't have to be classified it was just known and respected... that is what made it real. For those of you that were back then in those days, look back on it and can you pinpoint around when the feeling started leaving the scene. Does the time when it left your scene coincide with the uprising of the PLUR people? I know for a fact that mine did, as well as alot of the kids from around the country I have talked to. For some reason people have a problem with excepting that the PLUR might still not be real. Face it kids. Look around at your scene, are people boasting more than they believe?

The truth of the matter is that no matter how you think about it, our scene is dying. All the things that once made this a great thing to be apart of are being replaced with this feeling of commercialism and egos. The only way we are going to get back what we once had is to say fuck to this Peace Love Unity Respect preaching and follow a new motto: Please Let Us Rave. Be the first, if you have to be the only; that doesn't care about looking cool, doesn't look at a party as a market for shopping for drugs, and is there because they want to dance, interact with others, and enjoy what time that they have for fun in their lives. Look at it this way people, it doesn't matter what Society thinks goes on or what they think or scene is all about... what matters is what 'we' do and what 'we' are all about. Goto the party and have fun. Why they hell do you think we call it a party?!?!?!

In the coming weeks when I have more of a chance I am going to come up with a way for you to shout out about what you believe and if you are one of the New PLUR people or not. Until then you can take a moment and use the Guest Book so everyone who reads, especially me can see how you feel.

---Revelation Two---

Okay let's just say that I am moved. I just the other night had a chance to hang out with a friend of mine. Someone who loves techno and likes that there are parties to goto but someone that doesn't consider herself a raver. I asked her why was that? Why didn't she consider herself a raver and her reasoning was very simple, 'I'm not a raver because I am really new to this scene. That and if I don't know something about what is going on I'll ask. Not like most of the kids I see who will basically talk out of their asses about things. That and they act like the bigger your pants and the bigger your attitude the more of a 'raver' you are.'

The bigger your pants and the bigger your attitude.... think about that folks... this is from someone who is only there really for the damn music. Someone who goes to the parties because she can go and dance and hear music that she likes at the same time. Yet, a supposed 'newbie' to the scene knows what the whole thing is about more than most any of you so called 'old skool' kids do. Do you have any reason why that is? I can tell you simply... she is pure... she doesn't have any of the preconceived notions or 'requirements' that most of you seem to come into or try to impose onto the scene. The point is why can't you all understand this. When you label something you are debasing it. Look at what you did. PLUR so to speak was always present in the rave scene. Then what happened, you put a label on it... You named your demon and now it is rising up and snatching the soul from the scene and dragging it down to hell. (Metaphorically speaking)

My friend made another great point when we talked. She noticed this fact about 'ravers' in general. She recently went to a party and noticed that no one was really dancing. The DJ was spinning but people were just standing around talking. Any of you have an idea why everyone was just standing around? Simple, disgusting reason: the 'drugs' weren't there yet. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ABOUT PEOPLE?!?!? That is one of the most disgusting things about the scene nowadays to me. Damnit, why can't any of you seem to understand that it isn't about the damn drugs. Haven't you ever heard of getting your groove on? Have you become so dependent on you little drugs that you can't even enjoy yourself till you have them running through your veins? That is the kind of mentality that so cheapens our scene. Though I should say 'your' scene considering how 'my' scene died out. Died out to the point that I don't think there might ever be a chance for a rebirth. You have a DJ in the booth spinning, something that he/she most likely loves to do, for all of you to enjoy. But, you can't dance because you are waiting for the drugs to get there. Oh, no your body can't move because you don't have the drugs in it yet.

Don't any of you run off thinking that I am just harping on anti-drug nonsense. I too use to use drugs at parties and very rarely I still do. But, I did it for one reason... So that I could dance longer. If I was at a party and didn't have my drugs yet or wasn't going to get any that night. I didn't just stand around. I danced. Simply put I didn't need the drugs to enjoy myself. Neither did the majority of people. Maybe it was just all of your preconceived notions that 'raves' are full of drugs and all 'ravers' are on drugs, that when you came into the scene with this notion you created your own reality. You created the scene where there has to be drugs. Because hate to break it to you 'old skool' kids, you know the ones that have been in the scene two years or 3 years, sometimes much less, it wasn't all about the drugs. It was about the dancing and the music. It was about meeting together with friends and new friends.

Do you remember the days of the true candy ravers? Hell, I use to be one... I was an eye candy raver but still I fit the classification for a while. Candy ravers were great. These were kids who came to the party to promote a good feeling. Handing out things from blow pops, pixie stixs, gum, hell to even Popsicles. I always gave away toys to people. Yet, nowadays the swarms of candy ravers are gone. Gone because nowadays they couldn't be giving out candy and treats without ravers staring them down, wondering what they wanted for being nice. Sickening, fucking sickening. Nice kids driven out of the scene or just their ways from your paranoid, bad ass attitude.

Hell, maybe I am just too old for all of this. I mean I am 22, about seven or eight years older than most of the ravers I see nowadays. Maybe my scene is dead, maybe this drug needing, attitude carrying, fashion model wannabes, non-caring scene is yours, the new ravers. I mean if none of you are going to listen, or care even then what am I to do. The only other thing that would help would be the true 'old skoolers', ravers from my scene, or hell even the kids out there like my friend that care about what they are into. That care about what it could be again. For these people to come together and do something about it. Just like all of you have 'invested' my scene, we can come up with the antidote that our scene needs. So again like I said before fuck the Peace Love Unity Respect, just go and have a good time, fuck the drugs, go dance, fuck the big pants and big attitude, go and be yourselves, and most of all PLEASE LET US RAVE!

By the way if this pissed you off.... then kewl, glad to see that something can move you other than bigger pants and drugs.

i say we just start a new underground movement and revive classical music...

i can just imagine lying there, looking at the lasers whilst listening to beethoven's 5th symphony....

c'mon.. whos with me???

I'm more of a Bach fan myself......we should join Timelife and all chip in for a subscription to "Timeless Classics"

and then just share the discs amongst each other.

(btw, for anyone that hadn't figured it out - I didn't write that)

*jumps on her soapbox*
AND GOD DAMMIT MAKE EVERYONE STOP FRICKING HUGGING ME!!!

it took me months before i'd even let my boyfriend hug me, let alone some drug-fucked kiddy, eyes rolling and tongue hanging out in a sudden fit of 'love' :p

death to plur, i'm with you man ;)
but then again, what would the mopey goth girl know anyway...

From an outsiders point of view, that is quite simply because the music sucks :)

Other than that I could draw a lot of parrallels between that and the punk scene.

As for the beethoven thing I say bring it on. I actually might start going to raves.

Recently I went to a popular trance night club in Sydney (I'm sure you all know the one). I wandered around for at least an hour waiting for a pill to kick in. Some of my friends are into that type of music and obviously they came up straight away. I can't stand the music though find it mildly pleasing while peaking (of course I would still rather be listening to something different while off chops). So anyways I took a second pill and nothing happened still.
In anticipation of the shitty music problem I had loaded my phone up with mp3s and brang some earphones. So thinking I had shit pills I decided to go out onto the balcony of this establishment and listen to some real music. Anyways I sat down in a corner by myself and chucked on Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. It was then I started peaking on two pills. And let me tell you that was one of the best 14 minute stretches of my life.

My Point: Beethoven + Drugs = Good

i blame the music. one can only listen to trance for so long before drugs are required to generate interest. when the drugs become the primary focus you're bound to eventually see the scene suffer. ever tried standing still with your hands in the air every 2 minutes due to the onslaught of breakdown after breakdown without the aid of drugs after years of clubbing to trance? things start to get boring real quick. it's been 5+ years since euro trance rejuvenated interest in the scene and i think it's about time the formula for a night out gets turned on its head, especially regarding music policy.

You do seem awfully jaded. Maybe, to cover the ravers that dont visit bluelight, you could type the above esaay into a consise bullet form and hand it out with a cupa chup to people at parties?!... Actually I would do that, just to see their expression, it could possibly be priceless.

But yeah I constantly get grumpy at people over their lack of enthusiasm over the music. I go out for music over drugs but for some people it is sadly, the other way.

And I dont think many people actually think of living up to the principles of PLUR when they go out. But you would prefer if they didn't or??

I really hate the term PLUR, it's sooooooo american.

But I agree, I've been going to parties since 92' and I get really annoyed when I see people just sitting down looking wasted or acting like 3yo's running around with tickle me elmos and stuff.

It's a dance party people, that means DANCING!

^^ agreeing a lot with what you are saying re: trance...i like it a lot @ times but would prefer to dance to something else...

To the writer of the article:

Let me say firstly that I subscribe to the PLUR motto and think its a great thing.....all the things you are saying we are needing more of can be found in 4 catagories: Peace, Love, Unity and Respect. Ok, 5....better include Fun :) I think you've focused on the people who say they are PLUR people but don't live up to it, instead of the PLUR concept itself.....it should be titled "Anti 'People who think they're PLUR People but aren't' Rant" instead of "Ant-PLUR Rant". Oh and the idea that as soon as you name a feeling/concept/idea it is doomed is bullshit. No other word for it.

...doesn't care about looking cool, doesn't look at a party as a market for shopping for drugs, and is there because they want to dance, interact with others, and enjoy what time that they have for fun in their lives.

I am one of these people, and i am a PLUR person....

The DJ was spinning but people were just standing around talking. Any of you have an idea why everyone was just standing around? Simple, disgusting reason: the 'drugs' weren't there yet. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ABOUT PEOPLE?!?!?

I dance whenever, wherever.....drugs or no drugs....to music or no music...at a rave or in my living room....

So i guess that fucked your theory about PLUR ravers not dancing without drugs....that's right, you generalise and stereotype too much...

Because hate to break it to you 'old skool' kids, you know the ones that have been in the scene two years or 3 years, sometimes much less, it wasn't all about the drugs. It was about the dancing and the music. It was about meeting together with friends and new friends.

Still is mate. I mean i'm not a True Old School Raver like you, i've only been raving/clubbing for 2 years....but that's how i am, and pretty much every friend i have that comes to raves is too...

At the last rave I was at (last weekend) I gave out stickers i received from one of the headliner DJs, chewy, chupa chups, smokes, lit peoples cigarettes, etc....somehow I think you are generalising again...or maybe no one offers you stuff cause you're a bit too jaded...

So many things wrong in this last paragraph, not sure if i can address them all...basically you have contridicted yourself a shitload in this article, generalised even more and shown all the qualities you hate in these so called "nu-skool ravers"...

Mate, try a bit of Peace + Love towards them on occasion. Show a bit of Unity and have a dance with them, whether or not they're fucked up, instead of labelling them (if i see you out, i'm always up for a dance brother!). And most of all man, show a little Respect. You're rant has shown none. All it has done has labelled, generalised, put down and battered these people who also are out for a bit of fun in their own way. Oh, and have a bit of Fun while you're at it instead of being jaded and angry about these "other" people at "your" event.

So I suggest you re-examine the concept of PLUR(F), and re-examine yourself.

Peace brother....

Apparently our rave scene is about five years behind everywhere else's, maybe seven or eight. From what I've heard candy disappeared from the UK scene about five years ago. Meanwhile we're practically swimming in it. I think the PLUR still is in our scene and it's negative naysayers like this person that are killing it.

I think he's lost the magic and started tweaking at raves.

Hang on, if it's anti-PLUR, shouldn't it be called War, Hate, Segregation and Disrespect? WHSD? 8(

gees... for a second i beleieved it....then 'tnargus''s reply really made alot of sense.

...my first rave was in 2001.... but wether it bt 1901 or 3001... i think searching for true love at a rave is stupid. The true love has to be found in yourself... Sure, i noticed last week at one of melbournes huge annual raves, too many people were just standing around. But i noticed they were talking... communicating with people is just as 'plur' than dancing with people. I spent alot of the time talking to randam people, sharing water, smokes etc. Poeple should be able to do whatever the fuck they what, on drugs or not... isnt that what 'plur' is realy about? wether its a label or not.

The minute I start taking drugs TO MAKE SURE I have a good time, rather than to ENHANCE wat will already be a good time (due to cool people, cool music and cool vibes) then it's time to throw it all in.

People who sit around and say 'oooh we're going to have a great night tonight because we're taking pills' are missing the entire point.

^^ Haha i got to use that line legitimately 2 times in one week. i'm stoked ;)

I dunno where the original article came from, I went to google and typed in "ANTI PLUR" and this is what I got....

I think it's probably written by a UK resident though....

Tnargus, couldn't agree more :)

I'm 25 and rave for the music, the atmosphere and the people. Sometimes on drugs, sometimes not. Recent;y, for the 1st time, I spent the majority of my night talking rather than dancing. Why? Because I met someone who, with the assistance of MDMA, helped me work through a few personal issues that had been plagueing me. At that point in time, getting my head sorted was more important than dancing to the music. One of those instances where MDMA proved it's theraputic value.

The scene in Brisbane still maintains a pretty strong sense of community, and although the numbers of really chopped kandy kids are increasing, the old faithful are still out there. Perhaps the PLUR culture is just struggling a little in an increasingly cynical and selfish national culture?
