One difference in the tryptamines and psychedelic phenethylamines that I see often overlooked, is their difference in terms of "spiritual" potential.
It seems that tryptamines almost always generate feelings of profundity and insight, whereas the phenethylamines, be it mescaline, DOM, whatever, tend to have less of these, despite often being just as powerful 5-HT2A receptor agonists.
Does anybody have any any info on why phenethylamines (especially NBOMes) lack the "enlightenment" properties that classical tryptamine-derived psychedelics have, and what's the pharmacological reason for it? Is there some special receptor that only indolamines activate that I'm not aware of?
