Hey how is everyone doing? This is my first post on the site although I browse once in a while.I have a question regarding addiction to stimulants normally treated for ADHD.Is it advisable to an addict whose been abusing prescribed adderall, vyvanse, zenzedi, and ritalin 20 out of last 27 months to continue getting it prescribed because they believe if they gave the medication to their oldest sibling who can take it to work and 'dispense' the dose they could learn to not go above prescribed dose and use it to actually help with executive functioning/weight loss?Should I stop altogether and never look back?Would provigil, nuvigil, wellbutrin be good alternatives to work with to help with executive functioning/creating action?

Some random information just to throw out there I'm 23 and have 13 classes left to complete in order to obtain my bachelors business but don't know what field.I just starting working as an associate at kohls.I'm 5'6'' 220lbs. I'm on probation since april 2015 for beating up my sister april 2014(I feel guilty and remorse everyday that I see her) and I don't get off till april 2017 unless I go to judge for early dismissal. My dad told the deputy sheriff that I'm 'bipolar/schizophrenic' the day of the incident because he didn't want me to go jail.I did and got bailed.Put on probation plea deal.Since probation started I'm required to see doctor or psychiatrist for med and go to appointment once a month.I suffer from anxiety for 5 years but never diagnosed anything more than that except adhd but I practically lied/manipulated the tests and appointments although I do think I may have ADD I showed childhood symptoms of it.But I have anxiety and also smoke cigarettes and use to watch porn/masturbate. So I really don't know if I have ADD or bad habits causing laziness/slothness?

I have ADHD and used to take adderall for years. I was prescribed 2.5x20mg per day, which is an absolutely unnecessary amount. I can't believe that a medical doctor prescribed me that much amphetamine starting when I was 17 (methylphenidate XR before that for a year or two). I don't know how I was able to take that almost every day and still manage to sleep. Towards the end of college, I had to stop taking it because I couldn't stand it anymore. It wasn't even helpful anymore for the ADHD. Nowadays even a small dose (5mg) gives me all the shitty side-effects and not much else.

My new doctor was very willing to switch me to modafinil (Provigil) and it's been so much more tolerable. It's effective for focus/motivation/alertness and I experience 90% less-intense side-effects than I did with adderall.

Adderall and other typical stimulants worsen anxiety. You are almost certainly going to have fewer symptoms of anxiety if you cut out adderall and/or ritalin. Your psychiatrist should be able to help with therapy and/or medications (like an SSRI or something if necessary). Just don't take benzos, they only mask the symptoms of anxiety and they're highly addictive, both physically and mentally; they're also known to cause long-term problems like memory loss and cognitive decline.

Honest answer? There's no answer. If I tell you to stop abusing your meds and you get off the medication, it might cost you your batchelor and your entire career. If you don't have a heart defect and are healthy, I would tank it until I get the strength to use it properly. The answers are out there, no way anybody on this site can know, it's your body, it knows better, just go with it. It didn't kill you so far so how bad can it get? I know many people who were able to straighten up and use their ADHD meds properly and who became incredibly successful. Look at it in this angle:

Whatever YOU are getting when you abuse the medication, THEY want it. If you give THEM what you get, THEY will give you cars, money, anything you want. They, are society. Give them the energy the medication gives you by converting into work output instead of pleasure, or at least, give them 60%. With 60% you can have a successful career. Then abuse the other 40%. Just don't abuse 100% of your meds and then drag your feet to work giving nothing.

Natural4Better, if you can trust them, having someone manage your medication isn't a bad idea. Pardon, if I'm being a tad jugemental, but if you have real anger and other mental issues, I wouldn't give you anything but enough to get by. If you are seeing a psychiatrist monthly, then they are aware and are helping see you through what your dealing with.

MyNewName, has a point about switching to a medication like Provogil for the stimulation, focus, energy boost, without extra anxiety or other nasty side effects. I do not completely agree with all that was said about benzodiazepines. They are a godsend for a lot of people and are commonly prescribed along side stimulants. The trick is not to use them every day or at high doses but if you do use them, use them sparingly, only when necessary.

If you are using real stimulants to get or chase a high, your doctor will figure it out or you will slip up sooner then later.

I do wish the absolute best to you. If you are sincere, believe me, things will work out

I missed the part with the anger, DUDE, Adderall made me RAGE so BAD you wouldn't believe. It's the levo-amphetamine component! Switch to Dexedrine, if anger is your problem. Do it now. Oh, and your doctor is not a detective. If you're not an idiot and don't give away clear cues of abuse he'll never figure it out, not in 100 years.

These are idiotic matters to worry about...don't waste your fucking time thinking "is my doctor going to know, what is my family going to say?", fuck them! Just get to work and start being professional in what you do and in your career. Worry about the real deal don't waste your time with shit like this. Your doctor is paid to treat you, if your doctor stops treating you his dick falls, he is bound by laws and his medical sermon. Get to work dude shape up!

Why you're just standing there crying like a baby waaaaaa what if my doctor finds out...what if I keep abusing waa what if I get anxiety what if...just shut up and start making money.

I think you should quit the speed now. It will be terrible for a while. Maybe taper down to 10-20mg a day then stop. If you think you can use in small doses go ahead but I think much more than 20mg a day is not something I would want to be using long term. I wasn't even abusing my prescription but had a fairly high dose of 40-60mg (I think can't remember exactly) and had a very mild psychotic break. Followed by the worst year of my life.

It depends , they say supposedly that ADD and ADHD are life long , so getting off your add will come back, if abusing it stop whenever...

Take some anger management classes. Exercise. Take a break. Find yourself and be honest. You obiviously have a few issues?subjective). Find your center and address your hang ups. Face facts. Be honest.

OP said has 13 classes left now as someone with add id never be able to finish those classes, not even one class if I stop the meds. Don't stop taking amphetamines dude.. people with adhd need amphetamines in their system like people need air and water. You can take a periodical breaks but it's not like u can go forever without them unless u are totally willing to make sacrifices and big lifestyle changes in ur life. one being quitting school, etc.

i have to agree. Face facts.

I don't know if it's just me, albeit I don't know anyone who has abused dextroamphetamine like myself, and after 10 days cold turkey I felt reborn.... Only lingering PAWS was lack of natural energy.

Oh ya,i can relate. Adderall turned me into a raging maniac. I lost it so many times. The irritability was out of this world. The best way to describe the feeling was "get the FUCK out of my way or I might kill you" at work, co workers, acquaintances were all scared of me. I became this mean bastard bully because of the Adderall. I suspect this was due to the levo-amphetmaine content in Adderall. Such garbage! I would never take Adderall without some benzos on hand.

I think its a little overzealous to be putting so much faith in amphetamine. You got to believe in yourself and abilities. Sounds cliche AF but..Yes, the amps got you to sit at your desk, but its still you there learning and taking in information. Do you really want to be there? why are you there?

I actually hate learning on the stuff. It feels like im reading the information(heaps of it), but im not taking it in, or really grasping the concept in a way my brain will really remember it. Everyones got their own way of learning. Its great for babbling so much crap onto a paper. Sometimes i turn into a motivational speaker lol.

Amphetamine is merely a tool for helping ones self when needed. I used higher and lower doses, to get a feel, but have found the therapeutic range best overall. It is not magic. It simply helps you organize your self.

1. nope 2. amphetamines
dude the only reason I went to school is because of amphetamines. Without it id tell myself "what the fuck is the point?" just skip clas lol

This thread no longer has a point.

Some points were made, but this thread had too much extra fluff in it.

Amphetamines are only a tool that helps. If they work for you, great. They help a lot of people. The initial effects can be akward or pleasant. If used correctly, they can be used for a long while, without too many negative effects.

For further information, Utfse.
