One feature many users came to love over the years was a BLOG, or personal journal, whereby they could keep a diary of sorts for their friends to know what they are up to and provide feedback more personally than in a public forum thread. We have imported all the old BLOG entries from the old site and gotten them working in our new Xenforo system. There is now a link to BLOGS on the top navbar for quick access, and the BLOGS are open for new personal postings and replies! The same BLUA rules govern BLOGS and we do have dedicated staff to moderate that section of the board (Hi Mel22! ). We encourage all members to go check it out!
This is an article from Vice discussing the prominent role Bluelight has played among the online harm reduction community over the last 20 years. The article details a little bit of the site's history, and includes some awesome contributions from our valuable members. Please read it and share it with anyone you think might be interested in it
Firstly, a big thank-you to the author, Sam Nichols, for an interesting and well-written piece; secondly to the members who contributed valuable time and insight- and last, but not least, a HUGE THANKYOU to all of our members past and present who are the lifeblood of this place- without you all, Bluelight would never have thrived for as long as it has. In the face of pretty overwhelming 'competition', 20 years is pretty astounding- let's hope for thousands more!
How ‘Bluelight’ Became a Life-Saving Encyclopedia of Drug Info
The internet's largest forum for drug discussion started life in the 90s as a message board...
As some of you may have noticed, Bluelight is currently falling apart.
I sense a chorus of agreement so we felt that rather than continuing to use outdated forum software, it is high time to upgrade. This plan has been some time in the making, and it pleases us to be able to announce that the time is NOW Well, the time is Tuesday 02/04/2019. On that date, Bluelight will be offline for 24-48hrs. During this time, we will be migrating our entire database over to a new home using new forum software provided by Xenforo.
If everything runs smoothly, we anticipate being back again and open for business no later 04/03/2019.
You will of course notice some significant stylistic and functional changes at our new home but you will still find your old friends and forums there.
Are YOU Willing To Take Part In Some Exciting New Research About Bluelight?
Researchers from Lehigh University are looking for participants from this site who are prepared to talk about their experience of using Bluelight.org.
They're interested in the ways in which the technological design of our site affects your goals and behaviours, including your attitudes towards privacy here, and the ways you manage your personal information.

We have turned Bluelight to black today, February 12, as a means of recognizing the passing of Ryan Haight, AKA "Quicksilver" of our Bluelight community. In 2001, Bluelight lost a dear a friend. Few of our current members will remember Ryan. He was an extraordinary young man by all counts. An honors student with an intellectual curiosity about the world and, perhaps most memorably, Ryan was a wonderful person and friend. Ryan was found dead the morning of February 12th from an overdose of prescription pain medication.
Quicksilver's death was not the first loss this community has suffered, nor was it our last. Back in 2001, the phrase "Opiate Epidemic" had not yet entered the lexicon of mainstream America. Indeed, in the same year the Joint Commission, a nonprofit organization responsible for accrediting hospitals, began promoting the now infamous 0-10 pain scale. In 2001 the Joint Commission and Purdue (The makers of Oxycontin) also collaborated on a guide...
The Bluelight community invites you to join us in our seasonal Festivus forum which is now open. It will remain open until January 12, 2019 (Bluelight Standard Time). Seasons Greetings to all friends and family, and we'll see you there!
We have been around since 1999-ish, and as such, we have collected over time some epic threads - some timeliness, some capturing the moment exceptionally well. We take these most awesome threads from the various forums and put them in a special place we call Best of Bluelight. For November we will be featuring some of this forum's most popular threads. Who knows, maybe someday one of your threads will be there as well!
We will highlight other gems here in the feature forum thread.
Let's start off with one of the most well known topics of the drug-related internet: Can you fax acid?
Bluelight has so much to offer! This month we're focusing on our Sports and gaming forum!!
S&G is a laidback place to talk with other gamers and sports fans. We of course have most of the major topics covered, but you can find threads on just about anything here. Participation is everything around here, so if you have an idea (or just want to shoot the shit) about an underrepresented subject...go for it!
The busy season is just getting underway on S&G.
Calling all Bluelight NFL fans! Head on over to Sports and Gaming and check out their NFL thread. Lots of great discussion on this year's season and an ongoing Pick'em contest[/ulr]!
But it's not just sports, there's gamers at play as well. Check out the PC Gamers Whatcha playin thread, as well as other platform discussions.
Sports change with the seasons, and each new game launched is discussed in depth by members. Come join the fun, and say hello to the forum mods of D's and...
The Wiki Forum Is Now Officially Closed
The BL wiki started with good intentions, but ultimately people stopped contributing and the forum became a conduit for spam and basic drug questions. As such, it is now closed.
Should we ever find volunteers who have the ambition, time and knowledge to make a concerted effort to continue it, then perhaps it will be given another chance.
Thanks on behalf of everyone to the people who contributed so much quality content. If you ever see viable means to revive it, then I suggest you get in touch.
Cannabis Discussion (CD) is dedicated to the discussion of cannabis and is also the official home to synthetic cannabinoid discussion. Intelligent discussion of both basic and advanced cannabis related topics is encouraged. However, please resist the urge to post discussions like "Best Munchies" or "Best music to listen to while stoned", discussions like that are best suited for Drug Culture. How ever we do have a great social thread where your free to tell us what you're snacking on while your smoking, or if you just want to say "whats up mannnnnn?" Check it out: CD Social
If it's your first time to CD I recommend you check out our wonderful CD Directory! Filled with links to all our current Mega Threads and other threads of interest. Here in CD we like to keep things organized, cause when you're stoned its hard to find stuff. To do that we have a collection of Mega Threads with the prefix [MEGA] so there is no missing them. We ask that before you start a new thread, check to...

Forum Focus Month Jan/Feb 2018: Come Discuss Science & Film!
This is a new way of trying to promote lesser used (and often once thriving) sub-forums here on bluelight: forum focus months. Basically the idea is to try and give certain forums a bit of steam by cataloguing and encouraging use in some of their interesting and engaging threads.
For January/February, the forums will be Science & Technology and Film & Television.
Both forums have seen quite an upsurge in posts recently, and we'd like to promote both of them.
Science & Technology Active Threads Jan/Feb 2018:
Come and discuss science stuff in the following threads:

In partnership with Global Drug Survey, Bluelight is launching its own census. That's right, we want to know a bit more about our community. Things like demographics and drug use characteristics. And whether you use harm reduction information from website to inform what decisions you make.
This year, Global Drug Survey included an item asking whether people had accessed certain drug-related websites ever and in the last 7 days. So by partnering with GDS, we will be able to draw the sample of people who report using Bluelight in the last 7 days from the larger sample, and produce a short report on their data.
We will post that report to Bluelight's front page by February 2018. The report will be short, focusing on demographics, drug use statistics, rates of harm (e.g. emergency attendance), and use of harm reduction strategies.
GDS / Bluelight census
You do not have to complete every section of GDS to be part of the census...
Currently we have 4 surveys on the go where the universities have donated to Bluelight. They have helped us upgrade the servers!!! So please consider completing these surveys, if you haven't done so already, and if you are eligible. Thanks so much for your support
