Norspan 7day 10mg patch.

Looking for any information on it (besides run of the mill google search). Do you have to stop all opioid pain medication before taking? And how long. Can you take opioid pain medication while wearing?

Any and all information regarding it would be helpful. I know in the US its used for withdrawling patients but in NZ its used for pain with little to zero info. Thanks!

All of this information is provided with the idea that the patch works perfectly.

Yes, you should certainly stop taking Opioid analgesic prior to starting the patch. Absolutely. If you are taking Opioids you need to allow abut 24 hours (until quite sick) to ensure that you will not have to endure the extreme sickness known as precipitated withdrawal. After applying the patch and especially achieving steady levels most Opioids will be rendered ineffective to you.

If you're talking about taking a couple Hydrocodone (Vicodin; Lortab) then I would put the thought out of your mind. If you do require pain control, say, following an especially terrible event, they do have ways of treating your pain. One such drug would be Remifentanil (Ultiva). Many (most?) doctors believe that Opioids, when used for maintenance, produce analgesia. They actually block the effects of Opoids. Doctors will often do something like, bump you up by 10%.

Check this article out. It should be pretty enlightening for you.

Thanks for the information. It says it takes 3 days for the patch to take effect. Would that mean stopping 24 hours before applying the patch or day 2 before it takes affect? Stupid question so cant ask GP sorry.
