"Z" drugs ⚕ thread

Sweet spot for zopiclone.. 3 x7.5mg tabs for something with tolerance..

Half to one tab (7.5mg) for beginners

Stillnox (CR), 4 tabs for tolerance peeps 2 for non..

Does Stilnox (CR) only come in one strength? If not, you need to edit a milligram dosage into your post (if so, giving a precise dose would still be helpful). Four tablets of Stilnox seems like a lot to me, I expect only those with a good amount of experience using Stilnox should be taking that much, and people with that much experience probably don't need to seek dosage advice on here. Zolpidem/Stilnox can be extremely intoxicating, so it is best that people err on the side of caution and start with a lower dose.

Not sure why this thread is in the Australia/Asia section... :)

Anyway are the other z-drugs worth trying either for sleep or recreation compared to zolpidem? Could someone who has done a few of them give a brief explanation of their experience of the differences?

For a long time I didn't do anything unreasonably impulsive on zolpidem except sometimes take a few more of them than I planned, then over quite a brief period of a month, on 2 or 3 occasions I ended up binging stimulants at a time when really, I should have been getting a good night's sleep rather than setting myself up for a week long hangover. This concerned me so much that I flushed the rest of it.

I have read bad things about the effect of z-drugs on sleep architecture also, but, it would be nice to have something that I could reliably use on rare occasions to sleep, or, for recreation if I could be at least somewhat certain I'd keep some semblance of self-control and awareness.

I have only used zopiclone for sleep on a couple of occasions, and have never used it recreationally. On both occasions, a single 7.5mg tablet was reasonably effective at helping me get to sleep. I hadn't been using stimulants or anything, but it was enough to offset the moderate insomnia I have been known to suffer from. In general, I have found z-drugs induce a more refreshing sleep than benzodiazepines. One strange thing about zopiclone is that once it kicks in you get a weird metallic taste in your mouth; both times the taste was gone when I woke up, but it did stay with me from the onset of the drug until the onset of sleep.

^ Thanks for the info - have you by any chance used any other z-drugs to compare?

I would generally take at least 20mg Zolpidem just for sleep, which I know is more than advised. However I don't remember 10mg ever being effective. I originally tried it when I used to exercise in the evening and then had to get up early early the next day for work, and was finding myself too wired to fall asleep when I wanted to.

After a while I think the excitement of the "fun effects" kind of ruined it's effectiveness as a sleep aid for me because I'd be psyched to feel the onset, end up staying up watching cartoons or something and needing to redose, or just getting myself too excited waiting to "feel" something.

I do remember sometimes waking up feeling kind of "bad" with a headache, or just a bit down. No doubt the heavy dose played a part in this. I didn't originally take it as a "comedown drug" either, thinking about it now this was probably a mistake and a bad use of it in retrospect because of the impulsiveness it can induce, which is not really what you want if you want to start calming down and stop doing stimulants or any other drugs.

I used to be prescribed zolpidem and took it quite regularly for a while. I would abuse it as often as I would use it for sleep, so effective doses of zolpidem at that time were almost certainly higher in relative terms than the doses of zopiclone which I used years later. I couldn't say whether zolpidem or zopiclone is more effective for sleeping, but I found them both reasonably effective. On both of the occasions that I took zopiclone I only had access to a single tablet, so I have no first hand experience with using it recreationally. In my experience, zolpidem can make you act in quite a bizarre manner, and I am quite sure the drug has a bit of a reputation for this. I believe, but may be incorrect, that zopiclone does not typically induce such weird behaviour.

Hey Ravenhavok,

I'm very experience with z class drugs both for sleeping purposes and recreation.

I like to think of zopiclone as zolpiden tartrates little cousin. Dose for dose, zolpiden tatrate (Stilnox) is better for both sleep purposes and also has the crazy (and somewhat dangerous) hypnotic/hallugegenic effect when used recreationally.

I noticed a post above mentioned Stilnox CR. They are the most ineffective of the 3. {7.5mg Zopiclone, 10mg IR Stilnox, 12.5mg CR Stilnox}

My doctor accidentally printed a CR script when I went to get my regular Stilnox IR script and after one night I was back there the next day to get the IR. I found the CR to be extreamly weak.

Zopiclone is okay, but very mild on a dose by dose comparison.

I haven't taken either for many years, but I never found them all that similar. Zopiclone did not always put me to sleep, and I used to take lots of psychedelics on high doses- almost felt like a dissociative and the hypnotic effects were entirely mitigated by the psychedelic. I remember utterly blacking out on zopiclone and DPT and going through all sorts of weird states, at one point viewing my crucified body floating in space. Weird shit. And that terrible taste permeating everything. :|

Zolpidem was always utter chaos, just delerium with a constant feeling of being in some very crowded market place or party despite normally being semi-conscious in bed :D The last time I took it maybe 7-8 years, I woke up to smashed wine bottles (I really don't drink), puddles of vomit and multiple unexplained lacerations on my arm. Actually one of the most mysterious and terrifying wake-ups of my life and I haven't used the shit since. But I have fond memories of stealing this shit from my mum when I was in my late teens and gobbling 30mg and having a funny weird 30 minutes before utter unconsciousness. I also recall the terrible rebound anxiety I would get from this stuff :|

I had a similar experience with CR. If you are taking zolpidem for that sudden onset utter-fucked-upness, CR just doesn't kick in fast enough. I feel that zolpidem needs to enter the brain at a certain rate to reach a critical point of intoxication rapidly, otherwise a rapid tolerance arises and the result is just mild sleepiness. I used to marvel at how quickly the normal release tablets would kick in- 15 mintues, if that. Only xanax seemed to work faster, I could feel that shit within 5 minutes of taking it.

I avoid most GABAergics like the plague these days due to issues with dependance and I really dislike the feeling too, but I wouldn't mind having a crack at zolpidem again at some distant stage.

Very true Swilow. That feeling of people being around you I often get, as well as many of my friends. We have made a name for them *Stilnox People*.

It's a weird state of mind as you know no body is there but it can feel like there's a presence of many others around you.

I know what you mean about crazy blackouts! I won't bore you but I could probably write a short book full of insane experiences that I have no memory of and waking up. Just to name a couple:

Drove 30 minutes to the casino and was there for 2 hours according to my house mate who heard me come home. I remember going to the toilet at home about 10 mins after taking it then I awoke the next morning to discover $950 in my wallet. Wasn't untill my HM told me I left and got home at 5am.

Another time I was with my GF staying at my parents house, took it before bed (both of us). Woke up and shit was all messed up the cupboards junk all over the floor.
My mum waited untill she got me alone and said You and Samii were extreamly loud last night..I know you have sex but that was really uncomfortable for your father and I. My brother told me later that we were fucking extreamly loud for ages. We use to try and be extreamly discrete.

I forgot to mention on more than one occasion I have taken a 10mg Stilnox then if I don't get into bed straight away I have ended up COMPLETLY unintentionally waking up too see the whole box of 14 gone.

There's a lot to be understood still about Stilnox. In the past 5 years there's been some amazing medical successful trails. You can see them on Youtube. A lady that was in a comma for many years awoke after a 5mg dose and was speaking after 25 minutes. Another case was a man with extreamly bad Parkinson's disease. A doctor in Africa agreed to try a 10mg tablet after his wife had read of a success story simular.
Again it was amazing. After half an hour he almost had complete CNS control.

Zolpidem is deinitely intriguing; I remember reading the story about its use reversing a coma. How . . . totally unexpected, tbh.

I loled at your tales of mayhem :) Have you read this utter gem? I don't think you've truly been high on stillnox until you receive your delivery of *insert obscure farm animal here*. :D
