1 in 10 EMS Naloxone Recipients Survive OD, Die Within Year

That's what I'm seeing. Naloxone saves people, but if they have a habit, it puts them into instant withdrawals. So what are they going to do? They're going to jet out of that hospital and go cop again, to make the withdrawals go away. Then the naloxone wears off, and the total opiate burden they're carrying is fatal, so they die. Seems to me that hospitals would be better served if, instead of releasing them from the ER in withdrawals, they admitted them, or at least kept them in the ER, perhaps with some non-opiate comfort meds, maybe some benzoes or something to slightly sedate them so they'd feel better and not be in top shape to leave AMA. Then get them into treatment, especially Sub or methadone IMMEDIATELY, instead of putting them on a waiting list where they have to keep their habit going for 6 weeks waiting to get a treatment slot. Just my opinion.
