The Deuce TV Series (2017)
IMDB Link

The Deuce tells the story of the legalization and ensuing rise of the porn industry in New York beginning in the 1970s. Themes explored include the violence of the drug epidemic and the resulting real estate booms and busts that coincided with the change. The show's title is derived from the nickname for 42nd Street between Seventh Avenue and Eighth Avenue

This is written by two of the guys who did The Wire. It's very much like the wire in many ways; a slow burner in which so little yet so much happens, all played out by incredibly proficient and interesting actors/characters, with interesting and well executed dialogue to the backdrop of a gripping storyline.

Anybody who enjoys quality TV, and especially The Wire, should get on the case.

James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal are producers as well which shows they seriously back this project. From what I've seen so far it has a ton of promise and we are just getting to the XXX movie shoots in the show and the transition from prostitution to adult film star. Good Stuff!

Nice pick Tranced

I had no idea (until you mentioned) that Maggie Gyllenhaal was an executive producer, just been reading up about it. I really like her character, she's just got this really sassy confidence and charm.

Next ep tonight!

Cheers Tranced, gotta check this out innit, sounds good...

This show gets better and better. You have to be in a certain mood to watch it though. It's kinda grim.

The woman who plays Abby is super hot.

Yeah, she's gorgeous.

It's a shame this is new, I'd love to binge watch the entire thing (like say six seasons worth, I mean).

This was a good read: http://www.vulture.com/2017/08/maggie-gyllenhaal-the-deuce.html

It would be great to binge-watch. I'm all caught up with the show. The latest episode "My Name Is Ruby" was sad. Not going to give spoilers, but they said that actually happened to the prostitute IRL.

The casting is done just right. At first, I kinda rolled my eyes when I saw James Franco is playing 2 characters. Now, I love both of the characters he plays. Frankie is such a lovable loser type.

Nice article! I really like how Maggie's character is developing and the different direction she's going in. Been a fan of hers since The Secretary.

This show is great too bad it ended seems like it went by fast.

Damn, I didn't realize "My Name Is Ruby" was the finale. It did go by fast. 8 episodes. It's renewed for a second season at least.

Thanks for that. Its looking good, I'm glad to see many of the same cast given that its going to be set in the future. Interesting that they kept James Franco on.

James Franco is a huge part of the show, especially since he's playing two characters. Saw the 1st episode of the 2nd season, he was great. All the main people are back and the 1st episode shows how things have evolved. There's not so much "street work" for the girls, they're mostly doing porn films or working in a brothel. The pimps are going out of style and you can tell they feel lost and frustrated since the girls aren't really working the streets anymore.

I didn't even recognize Abby! She used to have beautiful red hair in the 1st season and be really hot. Now, it's like a shaggy brunette hairstyle, punk rockish. I can't stand it. She looks completely different.

Maggie's character has become a celebrity in her circle. She's doing really well for herself. It's just such an authentic, raw feel to this show. It makes you feel like you were there.

This is hands down my favorite new show. I wait in anticipation for the next episode all week. This new season has been fantastic. I hope that they continue to keep making new seasons.

James Franco is one of my favorite actors for sure. The whole cast is great, can't say a single bad thing about this show. My girlfriend doesn't really dig it but whatever. I usually watch it when she goes to sleep =D

Haha! I can't blame your girl for not watching it with you. I like to look at pretty women, but wouldn't want a b/f drooling over them too.

Last night's episode was really good. It was messed up what happened to Larry Brown with the cops while they were filming the Red Riding Hood flick. Lori is my favorite now. She's gorgeous.

I really want to see this. I'm a big fan of David simons work

Whoa, anyone see tonight's episode? Episode 7. Can't believe what happened with the cop and the prostitute. Heavy.

Got my granny into this show. She's a fan now.

This show has been so fucking good.

Last week's episode was intense, particularly at the very end. I had been feeling as though the end was near for old Cici for quite a while. Not that he didn't deserve it or anything. It takes a special brand of scumbag to be the scummiest dude in your circle of pimps.

That said, for all of his shit qualities, he was the only thing standing beteen Dorothy/Abby and the pimps who wanted to murder them. Expect at least one of them to get murdered in the next episode; the link between Cici, the pimps, and Abby/Dorothy are too strong for this not to be a setup.

C.C. couldn't leave well enough alone when it came to Lori. He had it coming, but I did enjoy his character.

It's crazy to hear him speak in real life. such a proper sounding Brit.

You were right about the murder. I was still shocked though. I wonder who did it, maybe Rodney? Ashley was way too aggressive. People are dropping like flies this season. There aren't any pimps left, none of the main ones. Larry Brown is into acting now, he doesn't care about running girls anymore.

So I guess next season, we won't be seeing pimps. They've been removed from the show one way or another. Excellent season finale.
