Guidelines for the Australia/Asia/NZ/Middle East Social Forum

Welcome! First of all, on behalf of all the moderators and your fellow Bluelighter's, welcome to Australian Social. Our aim is to make this section of Bluelight as dynamic and interesting as possible. In order to facilitate this, there a number of regulations that must be inforced. Please have a read through these regulations and familiarise yourself what is acceptable. If you have any questions, feel free to email a moderator and have your question answered.

Please keep in mind that every post within this forum should still abide by the conditions set out in the Bluelight User Agreement. If you have not taken the time to read it, we suggest you do so before posting, any post that violates the agreement will be deleted and depending on the circumstance, the poster will recieve a friendly warning and in most extreme cases, have their posting rights disabled.

Ok so first up, we are all adults here so most of this stuff will be an insult to most people's intelligence, but incase you are suffering from a bout of amnesia, here are some rules:

Here's what is not acceptable in this forum:
  • Any form of drug dealing or soliciting
  • Source requests for anything illegal (yes this includes pirated software and mp3’s)
  • Any mention of possession of illicit substances or future drug use
  • Personal attacks or flame wars
  • Racism, sexism, homophobia or any other sort of discrimination
  • Topics that are clearly going to be found offensive
  • Annoying or malicious links (i.e. - a link that leads to never-ending window pop-ups) are not permitted and will be deleted.
  • Threads that are created to blatantly plug a product/site - this forum is not an advertising resource.
Use your common sense when posting.
Basically, don't mention your drug use or location on this site as the cops and media have full access to all posts and could mean you land yourself in trouble. Again, most people have common sense and don't divulge this kind of information.

Use the search Feature.
Please use the search feature before starting a new thread to make sure there is not already a thread on that topic in the forum. If you do not use the search feature, your new thread may be closed. Moderators can merge your post into the old thread however they do not have to. The onus is on you to check before starting a new thread that your topic has not previously been discussed.

Do not post about taking drugs at a specific event/venue.
This might seem obvious, but please - when talking about a particular event/venue where you took drugs, don't go telling us exactly where, when and what it was. It's generally totally irrellevant to the point of the post itself, and it doesn't help anyone - promoters don't like to see it, and it often gives a bad image.

Threads created to sell or seek something belong in the Trading Post Thread

If you see a post that violates the Bluelight user agreement.
You can report it to the bluelight moderators and admins. This ensures a quick response as all the moderators of this forum as well as the admins get the report.

To use this feature, click on
warn.gif
, it can be found to the left of the post, underneath the posters name and stats. Type the reason you are reporting the post in the white box and press send report now.

Take advantage of the ignore feature.
With the upgrade to VB, you are now able to ignore posts by users that consistently annoy you. Click on the
profile.gif
profile of the person you wish to ignore, down the bottom, underneath their online status are the words add this poster to your ignore list click on those words and the poster will be added to your ignore list. When viewing a thread that the posters on your ignore list have posted in, you will not see their post at all. There are some limitations to this, for obvious reasons the board software won’t let you ignore moderators or administrators.

To edit your ignore list, go to MyBL and remove or add usernames under the edit ignore list option.

Flame wars are not tolerated.
We’ve mentioned this before; it’s very easy to get angry at someone without actually dealing with them. This is why flame wars become so intense and full on, a lot of people can’t deal with confrontation properly, thus when they get in front of a computer; they are invincible to the world.

There is nothing we can do to change the anonymity of the internet and Bluelight, but there are a few things we can do to help avoid ugly situations. Respect that not everyone will have the same opinion as you; you don’t have to agree with their opinion, just acknowledge that not everyone will agree with you. If a user constantly gets your back up with their posts, use the ignore function rather than consistently flaming them.

Keep personal attacks off of Bluelight
Personal grudges are petty and juvenile ok? There is no need for mindless flaming just because you have a hatred for the person.
Please keep all personal attacks to email and icq, or by whichever means you feel fit, just keep it off Bluelight. We will edit and delete posts that contain personal attacks.

A quick word on Polls
Right now, only moderators have the ability to post a poll. If you have an idea for a poll, PM or email to one of the forum moderators and if they deem it acceptable they will post it for you.

Attachments
Attachments have been disabled in Aus Social; if you need to upload your picture before posting, please use the gallery.

When a Moderator locks or deletes your thread
A thread (depending on the severity of content) will usually be locked and deleted within 24 hours and a PM or email is usually sent to the thread starter by the moderator who does the deletion.

If you have a valid reason, reply to the moderator in question or to all of the moderators stating why you believe your thread should be re-opened or re-instated.

Not all locked threads will be deleted and not all deleted threads will be locked first, threads may remain in or be deleted from the forum at the moderators discretion.

If you have a quarrel with the way any Moderator does their job
First take it up with them personally (via PM, email or instant messaging program, don’t start a thread about it) and if you are unable to resolve the issue with them, take it up with another Mod and/or Admin.

If you have any questions, complaints, or suggestions, feel free to voice your thoughts directly to the Aus Social Moderators:

Can all mods continue to update this list when they leave the forum

If any of those mods are still around and can remember their time modding aus social (rough dates e.g. May00 - Jan01) please let us know, it would be really nice to be able to put their tenure next to their names :) I'll fill in any I find out.
