Police have issued a warning about a new party drug known as "Blue Batman" that has been linked to the death of a Sydney teenager.

The NSW police drug squad said the light blue tablets stamped with a batman logo were being sold as a form of ecstasy but contained "dangerous levels" of 25c-NBOMe, a synthetic, LSD-type substance that caused psychotic behaviour.

Last weekend, five teenagers in the Hawkesbury area of Sydney were reportedly hospitalised after taking Blue Batman at a house party.

But drug squad commander Detective Superintendent Tony Cooke said there had been cases in Australia and abroad where people affected by the NBOMe class of drug had died.

"We are aware of the Blue Batman pills and, in particular, a number of bad reactions users had after taking them at an event in the Hawkesbury last weekend," he said in a statement.

Maybe that's why they are dosed high or as they say dangerous levels, maybe they thought it would be orally active at high dose. They need to get rid of that shit.
 
This is yet another unintended consequence of the WoD. And hopefully one of these days the politicians will begin to notice such things and also publicly acknowledge it.

That said - It's awfully kind that pictures of the pills have been shared with the public. I find that over here the cops won't even publish pictures (perhaps out of fear that the dealers will stop making money).

The State Crime Command’s Drug Squad has today issued a drug warning after recent seizures of tablets which contained dangerous levels of 25c-NBOMe, an extremely potent psychoactive substance responsible for a number of deaths in Australia and overseas.

The tablets, which are light blue in colour and are stamped with a batman logo, are being sold to drug users as a form of ecstasy.

The Commander of the Drug Squad, Detective Superintendent Tony Cooke, said there had been cases both here in Australia and overseas where people affected by the NBOMe class of drug had died.

“We are aware of the Blue Batman pills and, in particular, a number of bad reactions users had after taking them at an event in the Hawkesbury last weekend,” Detective Superintendent Cook said.

“In fact, similar pills recently seized by police contained the drug 25c-NBOMe, one of the so called new psychoactive substances recently outlawed. A closely related substance was in fact involved in the death of a young man in Sydney last year.”

Detective Superintendent Cooke reminded people that they are putting their lives at risk every time they consume illicit drugs.

“Illicit drugs have been outlawed for a reason – they are very dangerous,” Detective Superintendent Cooke said.

“The reality is there is no quality control in the production of illicit drugs. You just do not know what you are taking.

“Illicit drugs are produced in filthy backyard laboratories by criminals with absolutely no interest other than making money. They will do whatever it takes to ensure a fatter profit margin can be achieved.

“That includes producing drugs and misrepresenting their true nature, cutting drugs with caffeine, washing powder, whatever, in a bid to get a better return on their sale.

“The health and wellbeing of their customer-base is simply not a priority.

“Anyone who is considering experimenting with illicit or synthetic drugs should stop to consider the possible consequences and not do it. It’s a gamble with your life that’s just not worth taking.”

Trio arrested over potentially deadly 'Batman' ecstasy pills

They appeared to be three normal northern beaches mates who liked to ski together and party hard.
But police believe the trio of 23-year-old school friends are behind the spread of one of the most potent and potentially deadly batches of ecstasy pills the state has seen.
A warning was issued in August after police detected a batch of blue pills stamped with a Batman logo and spiked with the deadly 25c-NBOMe, a synthetic LSD-like substance linked to the deaths of several young people, including north shore teenager Henry Kwan.

The pills had turned up in the southern region of NSW, on the state's ski fields and at a party in the Hawkesbury, where several users had bad reactions, prompting police to warn partygoers about the "extremely potent psychoactive substance responsible for a number of deaths in Australia and overseas".

Fearing potentially deadly consequences, police began a full-scale operation in May to trace the source of the pills and shut down the network of suppliers.
Detectives stormed a hotel room in Sutton on Friday night, in the state's alpine region, where they arrested Jeffrey Gilmour, 23, from Collaroy Plateau and Zachary Fenson, 23, from Wheeler Heights,

Mr Fenson, a furniture delivery driver, and Mr Gilmour have been charged with drug supply offences and were refused bail in Queanbeyan Local Court on Saturday.
The pair met at Northern Beaches Secondary College along with a third man, 23 year-old computer technician Joshua Hanley, from French's Forest, who was arrested later on Friday night and charged with drug supply.

Moments after the hotel room raid, police pounced on three homes in Collaroy Plateau, Frenchs Forest and Bankstown where they allegedly uncovered more of the 'blue Batman' pills and computer equipment.

Vinh Anh Hoang, 28, was arrested at the Bankstown home and charged with drug supply.

On Wednesday, police conducted a further 11 raids in the Cooma area and arrested eight men and one woman who are assisting with inquiries. Cash, firearms, cannabis, ecstasy tablets, amphetamines, war medals and snakes were also seized.

Assistant Commissioner Gary Worboys said the operation had put a "dent in this drug syndicate" and taken a "large amount of harmful drugs off our streets".

In the past year, NBOMe has been linked to the death of a South Australian man who killed himself by repeatedly running into trees and power poles and a Perth high school student, Preston Bridge, who jumped from a resort balcony.

The little-known substance was also implicated in the death of north shore teenager Henry Kwan, who bought a $1.50 hit of what he believed was acid and later jumped off the balcony of his family's Killara home.

God damn... Dead custies don't bring in better profits. Well, not unless it has to do with potent dope.

But I wonder... How many of these kids bought these pills, thinking they were legit MDMA, and double or even triple dropped?

I know, I know... always use a test kit. But I would always double drop, triple if I knew they were subpar. But how many of these kids did it & paid the ultimate price?

I'm definitely prodrug, (obviously) but some drugs just need to be done away with. Seriously.
 
I agree. The fact that this sketchy and sometimes deadly drug is even around and in use is due to prohibition. It was dug up as a legal alternative to safe chemicals that are banned and in many jurisdictions can carry life sentences for ridiculous amounts due to the inert mass they are sitting on. Greedy people are willing to sell them and misrepresent what they are in order to make large amounts of money which is only made possible by the black market which fails miserably a prohibiting anything and instead serves to promote that which it tries to prevent by creating the enormous profit margins.

This profit margin does many things

~It allows for huge profits to be made despite inevitable attempt and seizures from law enforcement.. I mean who cares if law enforcement catches what they claim to be 5 million in a shipment, as it only cost 50 grand to make and 3/4 of it got through anyway.. so really its just profit, profit, profit. The economics of steady and strong demand combine with prohibition to create a guarantee that law enforcement looses. They intercept stuff and put this huge price tag on it, but really its dirt chep to make and the only reason it worth so much is becasue they have made it illegal. The more that LE intercepts the more what they didn't is worth, so the dealers don't loose out anyway.

~The black market makes drug dealing profitable. This attracts people to engage it it and increases the amount of drugs being sold

~The inflated price of drugs spreads drug use and addiction. When an addict is facing a addiction and has to find there fix and is out of money its very common place for a new person without money to get turned on as a source of money for the struggling addict. Thus the problem spreads. its not like the addict would turn someone one if they had better options, but addiction makes people do strange things. Greedy dealers will turn someone on in a heart beat to collect more cash, their DOC.

~LSD is much harder to make than Nbome. Nbome is cheaper and easier to get than MDMA. In trying to prevent people from useing LSD LE took out most of the supply of LSD. Nbome came in as a terrible substitute and we have seen its results. Greedy people sell it as L or as Rolls and collect there couple of bucks and say fuck it and walk away. Many people are aware of the dangers of nBome so dealers sell it as other safer chemicals. People die.

~in keeping these and other drugs banned and on the black market were there is no quality control or standards people have a hard time knowing what they are getting and often get nbome or fentanyl and end up fucked.

Then we have all the other aspects like funding terrorist extreme groups, ruining millions of lives, huge amounts of violence, hundreds of thousands killed, police states, and all the other awful insanity.

So I guess the best way to get rid of nBome and so many other problems is to legalize drugs. Period.
 
Yeah it can be pretty sketchy sometimes, there was another bust in my state (NSW) not that long ago where the dudes were pressing shit loads of MDPV pills and no doubt selling them off as E's
 
Punters who will neck any old pill just to get high are just as responsible as these idiots. If the consumer was a little more fussy there wouldn't be a strong market for sub par pills.
