Ok, heres to the art of the Novel (and a well crafted history/biography too of course).
In this thread I want imput. If there was a class on being a bluelighter, what would you have to read to take it?
I'll get us started with a big old
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
Go Ask Alice by someone I can't remember
Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Caroll
On the Road by Jack Kerouak
I'm sure y'all have plenty to add, and I will too later.

The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe
This is a pretty good account of Ken Kesey's wacky adventures during the sixties, the era that brought drug culture into the spotlight.
Also One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest by Ken Kesey is a good anti-establishment book for all you government haters.

Gates of Perception Aldous Huxley
Tao Te Ching Lao Tzu (getting a good translation of this made a world of difference for me)
There's more... can't think of them though...

Erm... Dyou mean Doors of Perception?? I was gonna suggest that. Its one of the only books I've read multiple times. Don't forget Heaven and Hell if you haven't read it, it's a kind of follow up.

No, Gates of Perception! It's... erm... very hard to find... it's about Huxley on pills and talking about gurning and his love for euphoric trance...
Or not... :p

Naseau by Jean-Paul Sartre....for all those with existential yearnings out there........

"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky
By no means a difficult read; just thought provoking.

"The Long, Hard Road Out Of Hell" by Marilyn Manson.
I'm reading it now, and I'm really diggin it! He puts things in such a neat perspective, makes me think...

my girlfriend finally got me to read perks.
i sat down and read it in one evening.
i wish i would have done so a lot sooner.

Ecstacy Club by Douglas Rushkoff is a great read, especially for ppl on BL.

1984 - George Orwell
EVERYONE should read this book, not just BL'ers.

Good taste, bdreligrrl.
some Irvine Welsh should be added to the list, along with the handbook for when drugs go wrong, Requiem for a dream by Hubert Selby Jr.
I heard a rumour that Go Ask Alice was produced by the gov't as anti-drug propaganda.

Dharma Bums - Jack Kerouac (beat stuff is amazing)
Tao Te Ching - basis for Taoism, led me to many a good trip
Tihkal (just kidding :)

I was also going to recomend the 'Ecstacy club', I didnt LOVE it but I imagine most blers would.
I'm gonna recomend pretty much anything by william S Burroughs especially 'Junky' (of course!) & 'the naked lunch'.
'The alchemist' by Paulo Coelho , 'Veronika decides to die' by him is great as well, neither are drug books , but simple philosophical ideas.
umm I have read so many great books i'll add to this list as I remember them.
Oooh one more - 'Perfume: the story of a murderer)' by Patrik suskind. a fucking great , dark book.
