Dark And Fucked Up Movies

Was going to bring up two movies, but then I discovered that one of them (Odishon/The Audition) already was mentioned. I can't believe that noone has brought up Roman Polanski's masterpiece "Bitter Moon".
It brilliantly portrays the viciousness of the human race, how love taken to the extreme leads o abuse and misery, how fucked up we are. It builds all the way up, becoming more and more dark as it progresses to the brilliant ending. A very good story told in a brilliant way.
Also, speaking of dark movies, just thought of Sweden's latest box office superhit, Lilja 4-Ever. It is a film by one of the most famous Swedish directors at the moment, Lukas Moodysson, and it does a quite good job of showing how trafficking is fucked up. It's very dark, the first minutes of it sets the tone.
It is about a young girl in the former Soviet Union, called Lilja. Her only friend is a boy, who has a crush on her, called Volodja. Lilja's parents leave her to seek luck in America, and leave her alone in a shabby apartment with no money.
Her only pleasures (and Volodja's too) is drinking and sniffing glue, to reveal the pain. She eventually meats a boy and falls in love, but that is when the nightmare really begins...
It wasn't as good and schocking as I had expected it (from reading the newspapers in Sweden) and the dialog was at times lacking, but still it is a very good dark movie, and you really do get a feel for the poor girl. Also, the movie is in Russian (mostly) which gives it an authentic feel.
I just saw Bleu (Blue), the first of the Tricolor-movies by Kieslowski. It wasn't that dark, imho, though it was a very good philosophical movie that raised thoughts within you. Also, Cube. Lovely. Lovely idea. Good movie.
*end of rant*

Cannibal Holocaust, it's like watching faces of death with a plot.

But good :)

Good fuckin' call, magnoliafan. ;)
I showed that film to friends and they were telling me that it was the best movie they've ever seen.

personally i thought "strangeland" was a HORRIBLE movie. the fact that dee snider (lead singer of TWISTED SISTER for christ's sake!) was the star of that movie, TOTALLY fucking ruined it. who can take someone as annoying as dee snider seriously? not to mention the fact that he's a shitty actor.
a truely fucked up movie in my opinion... "eXistenZ" spelled like that with the big lettering and everything. THAT movie is fucked up.
also, it's odd that nobody has mentioned "candyman" OR "candyman 2" even

It always feels good to spread the word about "Battle Royale". :D

The first movie i thought of was
Clockwork Orange,
... seriously dark and well the whole thing is fucked up,
The next one, yeah yeah everyone is saying Requiem for a dream, i agree with most, i dont think Runu Lola Run was dark and fucked up at all whoever said that, I think what this thread is saying that the dark and fucked up movies are the best
GUMMO and KIDS for sure, i was left so unsatisfied in GUmmo, it was too real and the kids sniffing with their parents! The cats! i actually thought the kid with the bunny ears was cute...,
Yes someone mentioned PI, that is definately dark, but it's brilliance exceeds beyond words...
Willy Wonka, definately fucked up, even without the drugs, and the Lepracaun! ahhh , lepracaun and chucky (i know its lame) really scared me when i was little,
Ok ok, one more, did anyone ever see Arachnophobia? That was kinda fucked up...

hellraiser
vampires kiss
scarlet diva

man bites dog - its hilarious at points (in a dark, dark humor way) but does have some chilling real moments
videodrome is pretty dark - or almost any cronenberg flick (existenz, naked lunch etc)

more just came to me:
the most fucked up movie i have ever seen is an anime porn classic -
legend of the overfiend, also called urosotijken or something like that...this will fuck you up for real...watched this on a dose and i seriously thought satan was talking to me through the movie...i recommmend the experience if you can take that sort of thing...
another anime classic is Perfect Blue - its about a japanease pop singer who gets stalked...its a psychological thriller that messes with the reality of what is actually happening...some perverted stuff in there but very well done

hey... i have perfect blue on dvd... i havent watched it all yet, but i fast forwarded to see if they showed any fucking :) i LOVE anime sex :) anyways, it seems cool from what ive seen, despite the lack of sex hehe.

Pi

Another one that I can't really remember the name of the film but I do know what was about. It was this fucker who puked his organs and involving some weirds cults

And maybe the most darkest things that was done it would be The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

High Tension (american title), Haute Tension (french original title), Switchblade Romance (british title). originally released in france in 2003

i read a book almost exactly like this written by dean koontz or stephen king. it's a french movie that's serial killer and psychological. over all i enjoyed it for the genre.

NSFW:
warning: if you don't like sexual situations with severed heads, don't watch.

According to the internet review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 41% approval rating, with the consensus stating: "There is indeed a good amount of tension in this French slasher, but the dubbing is bad and the end twist unbelievable." and a score of 42 on Metacritic, classifying it as having received "mixed or average reviews." Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "C-" on an A+ to F scale.

American film critic Roger Ebert awarded the film only one star, opening his review, "The philosopher Thomas Hobbes tells us life can be 'poor, nasty, brutish and short.' So is this movie." He added that the film had a plot hole "that is not only large enough to drive a truck through, but in fact does have a truck driven right through it."

Lisa Nesselson of Variety was more forgiving, saying that the film "deftly juggles gore and suspense," has "unnerving sound design," and "has a sinister, haemoglobin look that fits the story like a glove." James Berardinelli praised the film, writing: "The film revels in blood and gore, but this is not just a run-of-the-mill splatter film. There's a lot of intelligence in both the script and in Alexandre Aja's direction..For those who enjoy horror films and don't mind copious quantities of red-dyed fluids, this one is not to be missed. It's a triumph of the Grand Guignol." The Village Voice's Mark Holcomb wrote that the film resembles "a pastiche of '70s American slasher flicks that seemingly stands to add to the worldwide glut of irono-nostalgic sequels, remakes, and retreads," ultimately seeing it a "gratifyingly gory, doggedly intellectual decon of the likes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween and (surprisingly but aptly) Duel."

Honestly Hereditary was the most disturbing at some points. End kinda ruined it for me though.
