Dark And Fucked Up Movies

Originally posted by LapDawg:
as for 8mm, it was dark yes, but that isn't an excuse for Joel Schumacher to make one horribly acted, repulsive piece of film. Jaoquin Phoenix was about the only positive in the whole movie.
LapDawg you took the words right out of my mouth. The only thing worse than an assembly line hack director like Schumacher trying to be "edgy" was that once again the myth of the "snuff film" was given credence. For the record: there has NEVER, EVER EVER been EVEN ONE proven instance of the existance of a snuff film. For an excellent, detailed & footnoted account of the myth/urban legend of the snuff film go to http://www.csicop.org. In the seach filed type in "snuff" & you will get the article (its a fascinating & fun read).
What is SO bad about the spread of the snuff film urban legend is that it is used as a tool of the censors. Even though there has NEVER been even one arrest by ANY American law inforcement agency or Interpol related to a snuff film, the "morality police" (ie Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson) in their propaganda use it as a scare tactic & as a reason to ban ALL of what they consider pornography, which in their narrow minds includes films like "The Unbearable Lightness of Being", "Requiem For a Dream" & "The Pillow Book"

Natural Born Killers. That did an ala-weird number on me! I'm not the Juliette Lewis type in that role, but when I left the theatre I had this adreneline that would've made me punch the clerk out at the popcorn stand for just a look my way...eeeeeee!
note: Leaving Las Vegas sucks

In the Company of Men - Fucked up beyond belief
Mulholland Drive - Dark in a seeing creepy smiling grandparents sort of way.

^^^Good call. In the Company of Men is quite fucked up.
"I was gonna let you down easy, but I can't keep a straight face."

texas chainsaw massacre
i'd heard so much about it, thought it would be cheesy horror. WOW, that movie is like a bad bad bad trip. i saw it stoned too which made it worse. the impending doom and dread i felt in that movie was like no other. amazing though the experience it creates for you.

Good call on Run Lola Run...
What about 12 Monkeys, Gattaca, Jacob's Ladder and the classic Apocalypse Now!

Full Metal Jacket was pretty dark and fucked up
I agree, Requiem for a Dream was deffinetly very very disturbing.
The Virgin Suicides.. in its own way dark and fucked up........... love love love that movie.
Magnolia

Event Horizon
Trainspotting
American Beauty
I thought Road to Perdition was pretty dark too.

Sleepers is by far one of my favourite movies of all time, dark in what it represents, fine acting, and a fine film allround.
Also Stigmata... dont know what it is about that movie, the colour schemes it uses, the biblical references and the way its represented through editing and the acting... and the modernness of it all, it really captures me.
And i cant believe noone has mentioned American History X. Enough said! That movie is outstanding, in the way it is written, the way it uses black and white to represent the past, and the issues it covers.
In my opinion, a movie which has you thinking a lot about it afterwards, a movie that poses questions for the audience to decipher AFTER the movie is over, is one that rates in my book.

well proficient i'll have to agree with you that the most fucked up movie i have ever seen in my life has been "requim for a dream" . Some of the cinematics used in that movie made me sick to my stomach but in a good way. Another fucked up movie is Muhalland Dr. by david lynch. He also did twin peaks too. Its a fucked up movie too but not as fucked up as requim.

an australian film, 'Bad Boy Bubby' it's a dark comedy I guess, yes it's pretty fucked up & great.
I remeber thinking that 'eat the rich' was pretty dark & fucked up.

THE CITY OF LOST CHILDREN
That is a top movie, but I was gonna suggest Delicatessen which is made by the same people and it is the funniest dark as hell movie I've ever seen. I think it is quite possibly my favourite movie ever
Battle Royale
That is the other movie I was gonna mention, fucked up to the extreme! Have you seen Series 7? Its along similar lines, but done in spoof real life documentary style, kind of like a cross between battle royale and henry, except more comedy. Worth a watch.

Oh yeah and Menace II Society. That film really affected me, shows you things that you kind of didn't ever wanna know about
AND
Gummo, by the director of 'kids' which is also pretty dark.
Man, I love dark movies :)

Cabaret, watch the whole film and you will understand why it is disturbing. One especially disturbing scene shows a teenage nazi singing tommorow belongs to me, and a bunch of children joining him in the song.
