Neil Young's "Needle and the Damage Done"

"I've seen the needle and the damage done
a little part of it in everyone
But every Junkies like a setting Sun"

For at least 2 years before I got sober, I used to sing Desperado by the Eagles in the shower. I knew on some level I was telling myself that loneliness and the drugs I was doing were not the answer.

"Desperado"

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You been out ridin' fences for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet

Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get

Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walking through this world all alone

Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night time from the day
You're losin' all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before it's too late

Brain Stew by Green Day.

I miss the days when they made decent music.

most people dont kno sarah made the song angel dedicated to musicans that used heroin to escape. "I need some distraction, oh beautiful release. Memory seeps from my veins"

post your favorites, these songs give me inspiration daily:) share yours
Thanks Kwaht.. makes so much sense now. Have been thinking lately why do so many flowers hold such power..

Nick Cave - "Hallelujah"
the lyrics are all about resisting temptation, then the chorus sings "hallelujah" in the saddest, most somber tone possible. sums up the emptiness usually tied to making the right choices.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Otherside
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Snow
Eagles - Hotel California
Eric Clapton - Cocaine

just to name a few.

"Spies" by Coldplay. Will always remind me of waking up on the bathroom floor. I'm much prettier now.

Glad to see some Nick Cave love on this thread.... it was only a matter of time.

NOFX - She Didn't Lose Her Baby

So she cried alone for hours
And she did lines off the floor
She thought of the unthinkable
Then she crushed up even more

She never thought they'd take her baby
She didn't even know that anybody could
And even though she was the only parent
They still took him from her arms for his own good

He didn't scream
He had look of relief
His eyes never looked back into hers
He went right to the nurse
One blink and he was gone

So she cried alone for weeks on end
And she used up every vein
And she tried the unthinkable
Anything to stop the pain

She never thought they take her freedom
She didn't even think that anybody cared
They claimed she was a danger to herself
So they put her in a place to get repaired

She didn't scream
She had look of resign
She couldnt find a reason to fight
The darkest world reached on
One blink and she was gone

She never thought they take her baby
She didn't even know that anybody could
And even though she was the only parent
They still took him from her arms for his own good

This song may have a deeper one than what is obvious. It seems more so on this version, but it may just have been my state of mind the first time I heard this version, IDK.
NOFX have some other good songs about addiction, such as Doornails.

Sorry for all the typing and suggestions, but I really love music and believe it can help anyone, like it has me, if they really listen. Some of these aren't necessarily about addiction, but if you really listen, they all either talk about drugs with a serious feel and message, or they're just songs that really helped me with addiction and accepting that I will probably always have problems with drugs, but they motivate me to at least keep everything in moderation. I hope someone actually gives these a chance and gets the same effect these songs gave me. *Also, keep in mind I like just about every genre of music, mostly hip hop, but even if you don't like rap, you should still give it a chance and listen to the lyrics. Anyway, my go-to favorites are:

The griswolds - 16 years (party drugs) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G5F4QDoIXo

The Holdup - The Drugs (Describes mine and a lot of my friends lives perfectly) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk8ybHZv0jw

Mac Miller - The Weekend (Feel good song with really sad, personal, deep lyrics) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btRm4nyS1OAnd

Isaiah Rashad - Hevenly Father (deep, personal, high thoughts) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3YzYRgrIRU

Macklemore - "Starting Over" and of course, "Otherside" (life-changers)

Machine Gun Kelly - Gone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TWc000vqf0

The 1975 - Chocolate (about heroin addiction. Hard to listen to without tearing up for me) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHk5SWVO4p8

Wax - Continue (Stopped my thoughts of suicide) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEbTPtMEVYY

Wax - What's your vice? (Helped me understand that everyone has a problem with something and I'm not the only one) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oST3fnZ02Yk

Wax - I dont need no drugs (Kind of a joking song but serious at the same time and it also helps me understand i'm not alone) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHDVUDyZgp8

Basically any song by Wax or Watsky is really uplifting and shares their struggles real personally.

Vince Gill - Go Rest High On That Mountain (Not about drugs, but this song was played at my best friends funeral, who overdosed on heroin and it reminds me of him and his struggle every time i hear it to not give up, so i don't end up like him and have my mom go through what his mom went through. Can't hear it without at least tearin up) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jXrmAKBBTU

Asher Roth - Nothing you Can't Do (Not necessarily about drugs, just good inspiration that anythings possible) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hltubpFXdI0

The Fray - Over My Head (I know, kinda lame and it's not about drugs, but it's good for when you catch yourself in a dark place)

Kings of Leon - Notion (I like to think that its about drugs) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT6mB8N24_g

Tove Lo - Stay High

Wyclef Jean - Sweetest Girl https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXJXLq1lN7U

Amy Winehouse - Valerie (I like to think it's about drugs) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HLY1NTe04M

Watsky - Strong as an Oak (Good motivation) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryq_NaO_eXw

Anything from Kid Cudi's old music really showed how even weed can lead you to some dark times.

hope this helps someone.
