TDS Your Favorite Quotes; Vs "I Have a Dream"

Maybe not my fav, but one that resonates with me right now:

"Don't worry about methods. If you are sincere and honest, and have a true desire for freedom, even wrong methods will take you there. Therefore, give rise to the desire 100 percent, and the rest will take care of itself. What you are doing is not important, the end is important. You can do anything you like. The end must be that "I have to be free." You must be sincere, serious, and honest. Then don't worry about the methods. This inside Self is consciousness itself. If you do not know the correct method, it will lead you. Where you are arriving, it already knows who is coming, and it will go out to receive you in the proper way for you. You must be honest and never mind proper method."

~ H. W. L. Poonja (Papaji)

^ I like that!

"Those who celebrate the most are the true evolutionary winners."
Bill McDonough

" A friend is someone who knows your song so well that they can sing it to you when you yourself have forgotten how."

Very nice proverb! Never heard it before, thanks for sharing.

“Alice came to a fork in the road. 'Which road do I take?' she asked.
'Where do you want to go?' responded the Cheshire Cat.
'I don't know,' Alice answered.
'Then,' said the Cat, 'it doesn't matter.” ~Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

That's sort of how spaced out I've been lately, I'm really just trying to bring it all back together (although I find myself saying this a lot, maybe I lost it completely? Ahh no I didn't!)

This is beautiful and so true.

Once the realization is accepted that even between the closest human beings infinite distances continue,
a wonderful living side by side can grow, if they succeed in loving the distance between them which makes it possible for each
to see the other whole against the sky.
~ Rainer Maria Rilke

The Velveteen Rabbit said:
When (someone) loves you for a long, long time...REALLY loves you, then you become Real. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real, you can't be ugly...

A pessimist sees only the dark side of the clouds, and mopes; a philosopher sees both sides, and shrugs; an optimist doesn’t see the clouds at all – he’s walking on them.

leonard louis levinson

Throw your heart over the fence and the rest will follow.

Never, never, never give up.

Winston churchill

If you can keep your head when all about you
are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
if you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
but make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
or being hated, don't give way to hating,
and yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
if you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
if you can meet with triumph and disaster
and treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
and stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
and risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
and lose, and start again at your beginnings
and never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
to serve your turn long after they are gone,
and so hold on when there is nothing in you
except the will which says to them: 'hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
if all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
with sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
yours is the earth and everything that's in it,
and - which is more - you'll
edit have arrived

Rudyard Kipling

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.

Take kindly to the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with god, whatever you conceive him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

"After sleeping through a hundred million centuries we have finally opened our eyes on a sumptuous planet, sparkling with color, bountiful with life. Within decades we must close our eyes again. Isn't it a noble, an enlightened way of spending our brief time in the sun, to work at understanding the universe and how we have come to wake up in it? This is how I answer when I am asked- as I am surprisingly often - why I bother to get up in the mornings."

- Richard Dawkins

^ that is a pure tonic to hear! :)<3

He who has seen deeply into the world knows what wisdom there is in the fact that men are superficial. It is their instinct for preservation which teaches them to be fickle, light and false. Here and there, among philosophers and artists, one finds a passionate and exaggerated worship of ‘pure forms’: let no one doubt that he who needs the cult of surfaces to that extent has at some time or other made a calamitous attempt to get beneath them.”

~Nietzsche

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

“To live and let live, without clamor for distinction or recognition; to wait on divine love; to write truth first on the tablet of one's own heart - this is the sanity and perfection of living, and my human ideal.”

Not a CS myself, but my family is, and out of all the christian sects i could have been brought up in, i'm glad it was christian science.

And, whilst in a disparate mood at the names, I discovered the following two, sealed fortunes from an Asian meal whose memory has long ago been erased by the sands of time... But eerily applicable, and just as empowering to hear:

Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart.

~Marcus Aurelius
