^ I'm about to start the 3rd but the 4th seems to have generally bad reviews compared to the preceeding books :(

Oh this gave me a chuckle:

The only problem with the 4th book is that it misses out on a lot of the best POV characters. When the book became too large he decided to split it into two, putting the chapters for the characters in and around Kings landing/The Iron Isles and a few other places in book 4, and the chapters for those characters in the north/across the sea in book 5. Since that includes a lot of the best characters (namely Tyrion/Jon/Daenerys) it's just hard be as engaged by #4. I guess he didn't see it as a big deal because 5 was supposed to come out within a year of 4, but for whatever reason there was a series of delays and we ended up waiting half a decade.

The writing for the chapters that 'are' included doesn't suffer at all (except maybe for Brienne's chapters, which I started skipping because nothing interesting happens, but that was canceled out by how awesome Jaime/Cersei's POV chapters are).

i guess that makes sense, i didnt remember that Dorne is it's own little entity over there, kind of like Singapore within China.

I saw the episode preview, and I guess it looks good, god damn Cersei is a bitch! The actress who is portraying her is killing it. She's amazing, I'm amazed that this series has so many strong female characters. I'm thrilled about it. Dany, Arya, Cersei, I'm happy about it. I'm glad PB is into it too!

Tonight's episode was quite good I thought. I think it's starting to gain momentum now that all the characters are introduced.

I agree Cyc! things are really moving along. Although, I kind of now wish this was a mini series so we could get like 8 3 hour episodes, and then next year get 8 more, etc etc.

Lol!

well, i guess we have the question answered if Renly & Sir Loras would be portrayed as totally gay or not. 8) i feel like it's wandering off course, but i guess it can still get back on track. Pander says Ned won't be killed until the end of the season, but I said that it's impossible to drag it on for another 5 more episodes -- too much happens! but i guess they could just fill it with more filler like the conversation with Robert and Cersei. i kind of thought they could do a book a season -- but maybe they'll just kill Ned at the end of this season :/ I don't know, I figured that things moved way too fast -- they couldn't drag out the "lets arrest Cersei, renly and ned!" "no thats dishonorable" "banished to the nights watch!" "no mom i can do what i want behead ned" ~public execution~

I can't believe Cersei could rein her fucking 10 year old in. anyway. i am pleased with the way the show is, i totally enjoy it. i guess i know that there has to be that cersei robert filler to explain the relationships that are more complicated in the book.

I LOVE THIS FUCKING SHOW!!!!

My only complaint about the last episode was the way they portrayed Renly. In the book he comes off as smooth, intelligent and charismatic, in the show he just feels like an insecure manchild.

^ Just because he likes the cock, that doesn't make him a man-child

Renly wasn't really portrayed any way to me. The most I got from Renly is that he treats people decently, is kind of decadent, has a taste for finer things, and is the extreme compared to Robert & Stannis. Stannis being the brutal rough end, and Renly being the decadent, rich, refined extreme, Robert in the middle. and most surely a homosexual.

Don't be absurd, I didn't say that at all. My point is that in the books he was quite a charming and competent character, whereas in the TV show he's portrayed as weak and insecure, with Loras being the source of his ambitions. That whole scene just gave off as 'look how absurdly, over the top gay stereotype they are,' and I don't understand where it comes from since HBO has had no issues with portraying strong, balanced gay characters in the past. If I was gay I'd be outright offended.

As a gay man, I was not offended by that scene. Strong, balanced gay characters? Not many of those on T.V.... I think Renly does have what it takes to be a strong male character in the show.

Believe it or not, when I read the books, I never pegged Renly as a homosexual. I just thought he was sort of happy-go-lucky. Atleast I don't remember him being gay.. and to be honest, I wasn't expecting him to audibly slurp on the Knight of Flowers' cock.. It sort of threw me off TBH.

I don't think he was....he marries before his "run in" with the Red woman( Melisandre?), and I think I remember him speaking fondly of his princess. I might be wrong but maybe it was something HBO threw in there to appeal to every demographic that might be watching the show.

It was pretty funny though....Sansa never had a chance if Renly was all over that.

He was definitely gay in the books, they never said it in as many words, but it was pretty obvious and there was quite a bit of commentary on it from a few characters.

Word of God confirms he's gay.
