i have a question. my pain specialists is now requiring a drug test to make sure that we are taking our prescriptions and not using illegals. My dr. wrote a prescription that says, 'drug screen" -oxycodone and methadone.

I am prescribed methadne and percocet for my pain. I am a heroin addict, which my doctor does not know. I take the methadone, only 40mgs per day prescribed for when i don't have H. My question is, does a drug SCREEN only test to see if there are opiates in it or will it break down what kind of opiate. in other words since i do H and methadone, i know i will test correctly and show positve for opiates and test postive for my methdane. Can they tell if it is the H or the percocets showing for opiates?Remebeer my test is for a drug SCREEN.

thanks

Hmmm. That's quite a predicament. The only useful information I could add to that is that methadone is completely tested for differently than opiates. As far as them telling oxycodone and diamorphine (heroin) apart, well, I'm not exactly sure what oxycodone breaks down into (thebaine?), but I'm rather sure heroin eventually breaks down into morphine at some point in the body. I dunno, do some research online about what these drugs metabolize into.

Or just stop shooting dope for a few days and then take the test. Get all the heroin out and you'll be fine. It's not like you'll have a problem with WD's due to the oxy and 'done you're getting legally Rx'd...

Thats all I can say :

Yes, if the MD ordered a test for methadone and Oxycodone, that means they will be testing for opioid drugs as well as opiate drugs. Diacetylmorphine will show up as such. Abstain for a few days and you should pass. Keep in mind, if you test positive for heroin, the doctor is likely to cut you off from the other meds. They can and will do this, no law protects you if you are using illicit drugs in addition to two Schedule two substances. The law protects him, as he can be seriously punished if he continues to prescribe to an actively using drug addict.

Even the most basic UA.tests can differiante between heroin/codeine/morphine (they all have a common metabolite the test will detect) and other opioids

We don't do drug testing questions here at Bluelight for several reasons, most of which, they are typically not directly related to Harm Reduction. They're more often a social conseqence for drug use, which is something that we just can't help with.

I want to throw you a bone so you don't freak out, but it's not what you want to hear. Your dope, if it's really Diacetylmorphine, is going to produce metabolites unique to Diacetylmorphine (Heroin). If your drugs are not actually Heroin, then they're likely a form of Fentanyl. Either way, you can either stop using Heroin entirely prior to taking this drug test, you can fail or you can end up with a statistically improbably third possibility, that your Heroin contains some kind of weird research chemical Opioid that is not tested for.

Either way you look at it, someone's going to be in trouble. In the best of scenarioes, you are going to be angry with your dope dealer. In the worst of scenarioes, angry with yourself and the universe.

If you have 5 days is more or less a guarantee if you're using short-acting Opioids and drinking plenty of fluids. You can endure some pain and try to beat the system or you will likely be kicked out of your pain management protocol. It's a pretty sad story that I'm further saddened to say that I'm desensitized by at this point in my life and that is an objectively shitty statement for all human beings.

I'm breaking my own rules here.
