Hi all,

Have been noticing for a while now that a lot of people seem scared to tell there doctor that they do drugs.

While I admit that I cannot speak for all doctors, I can say that I am 100% honest with my doctor and there are no problems and I never thought there would be.

He is aware of the various substances that I use and has been more than co-operative in providing information when I have sort it from him.

My understanding is that it is against the law for him to disclose any information to any other person.

I just think its important for him to know so that he can take that into consideration when making a diagnosis or providing prescvriptions etc.

As it so happens, to date it hasnt made any difference to either, but hey, Im no doc so I prefer for him to know.

I also figure that he is a human being also and has quite probably experimented himself.

Anyways the message is that if you feel you cant tell your doctor then I suggest you find a new doctor that you do feel comfortable with.

Yes he did make me aware that they can be dangerous...........I would be worried if he didnt, but he also didnt judge me or start going over board preaching.

Tell your doctor everything.

Trust me they wont bite.

My trusty ol' Dr of many years recently left his local practice to take a city hospital position for a year :(

He was a great Dr, very thorough and unlike many, not instinctively dismissive of what the patient thinks. He also went to great lengths to explain things, using language appropriate to the patient's understanding. Although enthusiastic, the only area he wasn't that crash hot in was minor surgery, which for a couple of friends ended up looking like a major operation 8o But everyone has their specialty. G.P's are generally best suited to preliminary diagnosis, offering options of treatment and referring to specialist. A good one will also know when to refer the patient to someone more qualified in the complaint. He/she should also know lots about any drug he prescribes and any possible interactions with other drugs including the recreational varieties.

In the time I consulted this Dr, I was never once turned down for any prescription request. But didn't abuse this either or ask for anything known to be prohibited or restricted. We had a great relationship. I was interested in furthering my knowledge of all things biochemical, and he was interested in learning of new chemistry and drug discovery, as well as recreational drug trends and findings. Although a very straight guy, he was never condescending or righteous towards recreational use. As MazDan says about his doctor, he would outline the dangers but not preach about using like some I've had the misfortune to consult. However, biochemistry is a powerful weapon when revealing a doctor for what he knows - or is expected to know - and I've usually left this situation with the upper hand

Now, I just hope I don't need to see a doctor for a year 8(

I have a doctor who knows a little too much about what goes on in the recreational drug scene.

He's quite a young doctor, and I suspect he dabbles in all kinds of goodies =D

lol dimmo :p

My doctor rocks too, I could tell him anything, hes like a mate.

I have two doctors. One I see when I'm sick, the other when I want a doctors certificate for a sicky. One I tell everything so he can look after me properly, the other only ever hears "I had the runs last night, could I get a cert?"

Yeah the certificate one is bulk billing, the other is a good doctor so I don't mind paying up front cos I know I'm gettin tha shit.
