Incredible video captures two thieves angle-grinding their way into a pharmacy's safe in TWO-HOUR robbery that netted them $1million worth of drugs

Police are searching for two men who broke into a Texas pharmacy on New Year's Eve stealing $1million in prescription drugs.

Surveillance video from the Super Value Pharmacy in Euless, Texas caught the brazen two-hour long robbery on camera.

The video shows the two men crawling on the floor to avoid motion detectors before stealing numerous bottles of cough syrup.

They left the pharmacy and returned with a bag full of tools.

As one of the men cut into the side of the pharmacy's safe, the other was nearby watching as a lookout.

Video shows the man cutting into the safe using what appears to be liquid inside of a bottle to keep the carpet from catching on fire.

Once he gets the safe open, video shows him taking out trays of prescription pill bottles.

KDFW reported that the pharmacy's general manager says the thieves made off with Hydrocodone, Oxycontin, Oxycodone, Viagra and Cialis.

Since drug supplies are controlled by federal authorities, it will be difficult for the pharmacy to replace the stolen drugs, according to KDFW.

'We've had break-ins before, but this one was the most costly,' General Manager Jayne Laughbaum told the Star-Telegram.

The pharmacy's owners placed a banner outside of the drug store that read: '$10,000 reward for the arrest & conviction for the break-in on New Years Eve between 4am-7am.'

Euless police declined to comment about theft and only said the investigation is 'active and ongoing'.

You'd think they would of had a better security system. Even breaking a window or forcing a door/lock should set off alerts to security firms and police head quarters. Then if the safe(s) are even touched out of hours more alarms and alerts should be going off.

stealing $1million in prescription drugs

I wonder what the real cost to make them is. Like the cost at the pharma companies level, like 50-100 grand or even less possibly.

How the hell are they coming up with the figure of 1 million dollars? Even based on street value, that would be so much, they may not be able to carry it, especially since they took Promethazine with Codeine.

To actually manufacture the drugs? Pennies per pill.

Just look at how much people on centrelink benefits get charged for meds - $6.10 for a script that would normally cost $36 or even $80. I remember when my friend worked at the pharmacy she would get me meds at like half price. So yeah you can only imagine how cheap it really is and how much pharmacies make. It's the same as Jewellery stores, the margins are huge.

That's what I was wondering. Do pharmacies typically have that much stock on hand? Did they steal other drugs aside from the ones that are recreational?

I'm assuming they took more than just opiates, but that's a crazy amount. For example, hypothetical situation, say they priced oxycodone being at $1 a mg. If they had 30,000 blue oxycodone 30's, that would still be $100,000 short.

I know there's multiple kinds of 30's and then 15's, then 10's and 5's, and Percocet with 10's, 7.5's, 5's, and hydrocodone 10's, 7.5's, and 5's, and Opana, Fentanyl, morphine, Dilaudid, etc. Even with the multiple types it still seems like there is a bit of over-estimating.

Are the drugs in a pharmacy insured? Maybe similar to how a bank is insured? If so then they'd have more of a reason to come up with as high a number as possible. If the actual amount stolen was more like $500,000 then having a $1,000,000 insurance claim would actually be very beneficial to the pharmacy.

Edit: Ah! Didn't see this line:
KDFW reported that the pharmacy's general manager says the thieves made off with Hydrocodone, Oxycontin, Oxycodone, Viagra and Cialis.

I don't know street prices of Viagra or Cialis, but it still seems excessive.

Why the fuck is oxycodone and oxycontin so often listed like they're separate drugs?

Also, they didn't steal any tranquilizers?

The lack of other recreational drugs seems odd. Unless they just only mentioned a few kinds that were taken.

Perhaps the $1 million is based on street value? But in any case, it really does seem like a proper exaggeration. Also to answer the other question, synthesis of most drugs on a big scale amounts to a few dollars a gram end cost. Drugs are cheap to manufacture.

It probably is as news reports of drug issues tend to use "street cost" and over inflate it massively, but perhaps it is simply the retail cost of the drugs. I did some quick figures, and being rather generous on street value and how much the pharmacy had in stock, came up with around 600,000.

Carl, the inventory definitely is insured. Could be just in their general business policy but you can also get specific insurance protecting against theft of drugs. I have no idea how they value the inventory, though but doubt they are trying to run up the cost for a larger payout as it would be quite easy to track how much they bought and at what price. Just the reporter doing a fine job of telling the truth. :)

What is the 600k? Is that your estimated value of said drugs that could be realistically stolen?

And yeah, I don't think the pharmacy would have much room to adjust their value of stolen goods. I doubt it would be based on street value, and in the case that it isn't, all costs are well-documented and defined based on the amount of goods stolen.

Yeah, just the drugs mentioned. I did 20x100ct Oxycontin 80,60,40 and 20mg at $1/mg, 30x100 Oxycodone 30mg at $1/mg, 20x30ct Viagra and Cialis at $40/tab and 5x500 Hydrocodone/Apap at $5/tab and 20 bottles of Prometh with Codeine at $800/bottle which is roughly $550,000.

Of course they may have taken more items, but those are ridiculous quantities for most pharmacies. But I know nothing of how busy this store is nor its demographics or what patient populations it serves.

Heh... the stated value of the stolen goods is obviously the market value, not the manufacturing value, but anyway...

I'm just wondering how they had two bloody hours with no law enforcement interruptions, lol.

That picture of him cracking the safe is impressive.

Some of those Texas pharmacies carry a ridiculous amount of shit. When I was in Houston last year this CVS (which was in a pretty good area too) had at least 12 full pints of codeine promethazine syrup on the shelf out in the open. It's like they just acknowledge that pharmacies are just stores for people with crooked doctors.

I'm not sure if I'll ever seen a safe that big in a pharmacy either. They usually fit under the counter I think. That's like a cannabis dispensary safe.

Those guys were brazen as fuck though, hanging out there for 2 hours lol

Ive been told they go for as much as that. Crazy, I know.

I know! My ex gf used to get bottles, huge bottles all the time from her Dr and we'd just trade it for weed and xanax, had I known it was worth that much I would have sold that shit for cash lol. As a smack addict at the time I was like fuck this weak shit haha.
