Well, Mitt Romney had to endure stories about alleged high school bullying -- now President Obama faces revived stories about his high school marijuana use.

In the forthcoming book Barack Obama: The Story, author David Maraniss details the activities of young Barry Obama and his high school friends.

"A self-selected group of boys at Punahou School who loved basketball and good times called themselves the Choom Gang," Maraniss writes. "Choom is a verb, meaning 'to smoke marijuana.'"

(...)

As for Obama and the "Choom Gang," Maraniss writes:

As a member of the Choom Gang, Barry Obama was known for starting a few pot-smoking trends. The first was called "TA," short for "total absorption." To place this in the physical and political context of another young man who would grow up to be president, TA was the antithesis of Bill Clinton's claim that as a Rhodes scholar at Oxford he smoked dope but never inhaled.

Along with TA, Barry popularized the concept of "roof hits": when they were chooming in the car all the windows had to be rolled up so no smoke blew out and went to waste; when the pot was gone, they tilted their heads back and sucked in the last bit of smoke from the ceiling.

Barry also had a knack for interceptions. When a joint was making the rounds, he often elbowed his way in, out of turn, shouted "Intercepted!," and took an extra hit. No one seemed to mind.

So obama popularized inhaling/holding in the smoke while toking AND hotboxing? Single-handedly? 8)

I don't know how they hope to make an issue out of this, given how hard he's come down on MMJ in California and stuff. Oh wait, the rightist hoi polloi will believe anything (A large segment of my family believes he's not a US citizen and is a secret socialist Muslim. No I am not joking).

^ We always called it "hotboxing". But regardless, those times were fun!

So lets see here Romney was a sober Mormon bullying gay kids at his school. While Obama was the D bag who took hits out of turn, Which seems worse?

And to think all it woukld take is a simple drug charge on his record and he woukdnt be president right now. That's how fucked up our laws are; numerous intelligent and motivated people never have a chance at becoming a productive member of society because of our drug laws.

The last 3 presidents have all admitted illegal drug use that would have meant they could never be president if they had been caught and charged.

What an ass hole!

I can't smoke at the current time but I remember one of the best instances of hotboxing.

My buddy had a walk in closet with a heavy sliding door. We smoked like a quarter ounce in there. We stopped because I couldn't breathe anymore. I remember when we finally opened the closet up a little, we watched smoke pour out for about 20 minutes.

Hotboxing is the best.

But yeah, I remember this annoying shithead (for many other reasons as well) would take hits out of turn and everyone else was too socially awkward to say anything. Needless to say, I stopped smoking with them and won't start again when I can smoke again. But yeah, shame on obama for doing that shit, its not funny, its not cool, its annoying.

Shame on Obama for prosecuting medical marijuana providers where states have voted it legal, making people with AIDS and cancer suffer needlessly instead of using a plant given to us by nature.

As for intercepting the joint, I personally don't care much.

I foresee there being a slander lawsuit as a result of this book.

I don't think the truth automatically qualifies as slander, but we'll see how it plays out in court.
