On their off time, Lenhart and her group headed the Haitian city of Jacmel, a mountainous region with waterfalls and beautiful natural pools.

That’s where the trouble began. Lenhart had waded in the water beneath the waterfall, then climbed up some 30 feet onto a cliff overlooking the water.

“I decided I was ready to come down off the waterfall and it was then that I slipped and I hit an outcropping about 10 feet down and then from there fall another 20 feet into the water,” Lenhart said. The water saved her life but she shattered her kneecap on the way down.

With the help of several men, Lenhart climbed out of the area and after a 3 1/2 hour trip to the nearest hospital in Port-Au-Prince, she underwent reconstructive surgery with no general anesthesia.

A week later she was flown back to the U.S., still in deep pain, and admitted into Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.

“They gave me a pretty high, heavy duty narcotic, Norco, as a painkiller going forward and I had used that up. It had been a month and I had called for my refill,” Lenhart said.

The pharmacy called Lenhart to ask her exactly what time she would be in pick up her prescription. She thought it was odd, but told the pharmacy what time she would be there.

Still on crutches and unable to drive, a friend of Lenhart’s, drove her to a CVS Pharmacy in Oak Cliff.

She wasn’t able to pick up her prescription because a police officer arrived to pick her up.

“He was like ‘we need to go outside,’” she said. “I was on crutches and I had a permanent IV line in my arm. I had a big leg brace. I asked him if it was necessary and he said yes and he rather policingly escorted me out the front door and into the back of a waiting patrol car.”

Lenhart was so stunned, she didn’t think to ask the officer questions. The officer explained to her what was going on.

“He said, ‘Well we believe that you have forged your pain pill prescription and we are calling your doctor now. But I’ve worked with this pharmacist a number of times and he’s never made a mistake,” Lenhart said.

The officer then took her the Dallas County jail, where she remained overnight. After she was released on bond, she was charged with obtaining a controlled substance by fraud, a felony.

As a chronic pain patient on lots of medication this makes me sick and furious. This assault on sick and injuired people needs to stop. Making it slightly harder for people that abuse their opietes to get them is not worth making all the inocent and sufforing people suffor even more. I hope that if the cops and idiot pharmacist ever actualy need strong pain meds that they get denied them so they would know how that woman they tortured feels. I wish her luck on winning that case against cvs.

Why in the world would they think she forged a prescription? These things are pretty easy to verify. I've been prescribed norcos and dexedrine for years now, never had that happen. Dexedrine is even more controlled than norcos here. Hydrocodone/aceteminophen solution is only schedule 3 here in texas. dexedrine is schedule I without a prescription here. Well I lie, in TX it's called "penalty groups" but you get the picture...

Wow, that is nuts. I live outside of Dallas and this makes me sick. I've never run into trouble with methadone, amphetamine, or clonazepam scripts luckily, but I could see a pharmacist being curious as to why I'm scripted such a combo.

i hope she gets millions from her law siut and never has to work again

Not allowing someone pain relief is the same as deliberately causing pain to someone… ie: torture.

What the fuck? I thought it was hard to get pain medication in Australia. We don't go to jail and get a criminal record for breaking our knees though. Fuck.

good god reading this just ruined my day seriously WTF is wrong with these people in power:X8:)!!??!?!

The cop should be shot in the kneecaps and left to die.

No the fuckers should be shot in the kneecaps and elbows and left to live with not so much as a goddamn aspirin to relieve their pain! What's the fun of having them die as opposed to watching them beg to die and give the swine a taste of their own medicine :D. As a chronic pain patient this stuff makes me sick.

Thank fuck in Canada you can't be locked up for trying to fill a legit prescription though christ almighty. Don't these guys have actual criminals to catch like people who beat homeless mentally ill people to death of the street in California? Oh wait 8(

^I have heard more than one story that is similar to this. Whatever happened to officer discretion here? If a person is in severe pain as a result of injury, they should obviously be given the benefit of doubt. Especially with the US priding itself on due process and innocent before proven guilty. It certainly is a sad day when so many people are not asking questions but only blindly following orders given from above.
