Is there a Brisbane RaveSafe type thing here?
And if not, why not?
I'd volunteer my services for sure :)

Ahhhh I know a guy that works/worked for Quivva, I was'nt aware that they still did they rave thingy though.
cheers for the info mate :)

Yep guys, Hardup still conducts Outreach at Raves. Expect a big presence in the upcoming months from what I've heard.

just thought i'd post this in this thread instead of starting a new one.
does anyone know if there is Ravesafe(or something of that kind) in Cairns, or around North Queensland?
i haven't seen any at the parties, but then again, i havn't been to very many.
i'm asking this because i know some people that are in one of the local Rave/Danceparty crews, and i think that they would be interested(haven't asked them yet) in having Ravesafe at their parties. their parties have a reputation for having lots of drugs there(not the crews fault!), and i think their reputation would improve with the presence of Ravesafe.
it's not even drugs that are usually the problems they get, it is injuries. at the last party, a girl got stung by a bullrout(freshwater stonefish) while swimming, and there was no one there with medical training, and if they were, they were too off their nut to do anything.
onething that they would want to know though, is it a free service?
because they usually don't make much profit off their parties, just basically enough to pay everyone, and a little bit more.
i'm gonna have a chat to them about it, because i think Cairns needs something like Ravesafe(if it isn't already here).

There is no ravesafe like organisation in cairns - but *SOMETIMES* I've noticed St John's Ambulance have a little stall set up and they are always very friendly there one time i had to go visit them (couldn't find any water)
It would be great to have a safe presence around cause I've had a bad mdea experience and would have greatly appreciated a place to go and be cared for.

i'm definately going to have a chat to the guys i know about it. because i think it is important, that there is some sort of place where people can go if they are having a bad time(hasn't happened to me yet, touchwood).
At Sunrise 2003, they had little pamphlets with info on what to look for if you think someone is having a bad time, and also the signs that it might be happening to you. also gave advise on not mixing drugs, drinking water etc.
it was called Peaking Hard, and i think it was done by Ravesafe, but they only had like 50 of them and they went straight away.
also, if they do want to get involved with it, who should I/they contact to get things started?

There is hardup too.
They do similar outreach stuff at dance parties, and have lots of training on.
Call them at QuIVAA on 3252 5390, or email [email protected] to become a volunteer.

Flexistantialist, are hardup at Brisbane raves? When we were peer helpers at Livid i saw the QuIVVA stand (loved the mural :) ), but i've not seen any stalls at Parties like advent*jah, circus x and the like...

It would probably be best to ask Michaela @ Fubar, cause she will know contacts for the Cairns promoters. Might even put a sign or notice up to stir some interest.
Check out www.oeworld.com (Oscillating Entertainment - Dreamscape People) cause as has been noticed they have 'commercialised' the scene a little of late and are trying to promote a safe image to raving. I'm sure clyde would be interested in getting this sort of thing started, especially with all the support that is behind OE at the moment.
If I was still sticking around I'd be happy to help you out and be part of getting a HM group together, but I'm off to Brisbane next month to start UNI :D

Samadhi, I think hardup gets to most raves now, fortnightly according to a friend of mine who did volunteer with them.

HARDUP actually has an off shoot called HARDUP army where volunteers are sent training material and resources to distribute at parties where HARDUP cannot actually attend. We have a couple of volunteers who go to parties in Cairns and other doofs up North and pass on harm reduction messages through informal social networks.
If anyone is interested in volunteer work but does not live in brisbane please give HARDUP@QuIVAA a call on 32525390 or email [email protected]. We are also looking for more committed volunteers to do parties within Brisvegas so drop us a line if interested.
