Users' News - the magazine of NUAA, the NSW users' group - is currently preparing an issue (due late Jan 2003)which will be particularly focusing on the use of drugs in a party environment, and the use of pychostimulants in general.
in particular we would like first person (ie. writing about your experiences - aliases welcome) stories (especiallly if they're funny or weird) and art.
stories are paid at 10c/ word, and art payments are negotiated. the text of our promo flier follows...
"GHB special k crystal
coke ecstasy smack pot
benzos alcohol
speed
viagra
mix ‘n match
anything else?
If you’ve got a story to tell (or a picture) about using these drugs, we’d like to
hear from you. Early in the new year, NUAA will publish an issue of User’s News,
NUAA’s quarterly magazine, focusing on how, what, where, when, why ... why not
... people are doing these drugs. We’d like to include some first-person stories
written by people with experience using this stuff. We pay 10 cents/word for stories
published in the magazine. And, of course, authors can be anonymous.
Send your work to by 15 Dec 2002 to: User’s News, PO Box 278, Darlinghurst, NSW 1300
Fax: 02 9557 1736 Email: [email protected]

dirtycarrot: i know your just pointing out a spelling error, you may not realise the contribution mibrane has made the the harm reduction community via his work with ravesafe etc. not all people who post requesting information are uninformed mindless journos.

hey i just tried to e mail you with my article and it was returned twice help cheers ,,

Wait... I can get *PAID* to relate one of my stoner stories?
Sounds very excellent! I'll get onto it posthaste!

I find it ironic that someone who is being pedantic about spelling can't even be bothered to put the letters "yo" in "your"...

not sure why that email address isn't working brrat. perhaps you'd like to try mine

payments for pictures tend to work out to around $50 - making a picture worth about 500 words!) for a single piece or up to $150 for a page-long cartoon. as i said though, the art rate is negotiable.
thanks for everyone's interest. FYI - users' news has a print run of 21000 so it's a good way of getting some exposure for your creative endeavors. also, while the planned edition (#41) has a theme focusing on p-s-y-c-h-o-s-t-i-m-u-l-a-n-t-s each of our 4 issues a year carry a significant section of user's stories and art (our evaluations with users show it is overwhelmingly the most popular section.) its just that opiate stories tend to dominate this section, so we're making a special effort to get "upper" stories out for our summer party/ mardi gras edition. but we'd love to get more from this community right through the year, so if you happen to miss this deadline, don't think we wouldn't be interested in getting it for the following one.

Sorry Johnboy, but some ppl have better things to be doing than sit aroung moderating all day.

^^^
Dude, respect the mods... They have eerie powers...
Mibrane: Just a question: How many words are they looking for 500? 1000? 2000? I've got a few stories of varying lengths and a many an idea bouncing around.

Yeah, that's why I'm an admin. I do even less. :p Here to make friends are you?

No moderators, no forum , no information, no safe fun. Pretty simple huh!
These guys keep this place alive. Dont kill the vibe. Can we now go back to the topic?

Mibrane: I have finally had enough time to write 2 accounts for NUAA, and I've sent it to your email address.
What happens now?

That is probably about as low as comeback as I have ever seen. This isn't a free speech forum. The admins and mods are hear to make sure that what is said is at least somewhat constructive, comments like that are not.

FJ - I have passed your pieces on to the editor, the editorial board makes a decision what they want to run, and they'll be in touch....
or that should be the case when things are running smoothly.
Most unfortunately, an "anonymous police officer" rang into the Ray Hadley 2GB program on Tuesday and complained about our mag, and sent it into the shockjockcockhead who, of course, agreed with the cop and got onto the Minister.
The Minister has issued an announcement that distribution of the current mag is to be suspended and that the next edition will not go into production until after a review.
Its pretty upsetting. Long-time blers may remember my posts 18 months or so ago when the Herald Sun went after Whack, the magazine of the Vic user org VIVAIDS, where i was based at the time. Luckily that blew over...but this may well not.
NUAA has issued no formal statement so i need to watch what i say, but hopefully we will fight for it to remain an independent voice for illicit drug users. If we do, support letters and the such like may come in handy.
So... it is my hearty Christmas wish that we will all be able to see Fetish Jester's work in print early in the New Year, but we'll have to see..
Once we have issued something more formal i'll make a specific thread about it.

Well.... FUCK!
What the hell is wrong with people? If you don't like it DON'T FUCKING READ IT.
What are they worried about? Young kids reading the magazine and being corrupted? T
he people that know the NUAA and read the magazine would already be people using drugs. I didn't even know NUAA existed till I read mibrane's post.

There are a couple of things which need to be changed with this – or rather I should say that the way it stands I personally feel it is a rather stupid part of this otherwise reasonable legislative guide (excluding porn of course 8) )

In the above document, the board claims to regularly accept consultation with the public amongst other bodies prior to amending this guide. Maybe by voicing the appropriate concern, something could be done…. ?
