UK Cannabis Confusion: Jail For 5 Joints?

Cannabis users attending Chelmsford's V2002 Festival risk being arrested and prosecuted as dealers, according to reports in this week's NME. Festival goers arrested with as little as 3.5 grams (an eighth of an ounce) could be jailed, according to local cops, despite continuing media reports that marijuana is about to be reclassified as Class C.
"Anyone carrying more than enough for five spliffs will be arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply," an Essex police spokesman warned.
The bizarre police strategy coincided with the publication of Mix Mag’s latest issue, featuring a cover image of a burning joint highlighting their 15 page special report on cannabis decriminalisation.
"People have been smoking grass in the park for years, but this year the paranoia has gone," Mix Mag suggested.
"More than 5 million people in the UK smoke weed. To mark the country's freedom to enjoy ganga we’re dedicating this issue of Mix Mag to the wacky world of weed."
