Sorry, read in the free EXpress Newspaper. Heres a copy of it..
The use of sniffer dogs by NSW police to randomly search people for drygs will be challenged in court. Redfern Legal Centre has advised more than 20 people they may have a case against police.
The NSW Council for Civil Liberties has called the random searches an abuse of police powers. Spokesman Timothy Moore said getting sniffed by a dog constituted a search. "If you were at customs and the dogs ran over your bags that would be the first step of a search," he said in reponse to any arguement that a search does not begin until the police move in.
He argues that certain sections of the community appear to be targeted:"The rock and roll community, the dance community and the gay and lesbian comunity...
Theres no targeting of the stock exchange on a Friday afternoon." Moore said it was a searching of the populous at large, without any grounds for suspicion.
"Most Australians have an old-fashioned view that they're allowed to go to the pub or walk down the street or get on public transport without being searched by the police"
Police Commissioner Peter Pyan said:"The dogs don't touch anybody, they'll sit next down to someone who is believed to be in possession of drugs..that officer then has reasonable grounds to suspect and asks for the pockets to be emptied or the bad to be opened."
Actually thats ALL of it.. Just seeing what your guys views are.. Its probbaly on the net somewhere, but its 8:30 am and I would rather type than look up news urls at this time of the morning
