didn't know whether to give this a happy or sad face, so i just gave it a mushroom...but it seems underworld are days away from being confirmed for bdo. apparently mark james couldn't get them for 2tribes cos bdo already had them booked (fcknfcknfck!! how much better would 2tribes have been!!) with kraftwerk headlining the boiler room or whatever they call that peice of shit excuse for a party, it would also seem they will be playing main stage.
they were always coming out, i spose it was just a matter of what 'festival' they rode in on. a real shame they dont just play their own shows outright, but then again las time they played here was at a bdo so they must have a sad, sad view of the australian music loving public.
still, i'll be there, trying to ignore the little fucks orbiting around in between seeing crappy punk rock bands that are so cool cos they have a 'dj' who does fuck all...i'll ignore the mega-overcommercialisation of the whole thing (somewht ironic for karl hyde to be happy to play at such an event), and i'll ignore whatever puss setup they will no doubt have. and i spose i'll jsut hope they pull another private gig as seen in the blue mountains last time.
[/rant]
ps. i would have posted this in events, but it would have been shut down within 5 minutes due to nazi 6 week 'rules'...

This is a sad day indeed, but then again I get to relive my Underworld experiences this wayy.......with lots of wankers :D

Yes the old debate - "God BDO is shite, but look at who's playing!!!"
It plagues me every year which has prevented me from ever going, and now that i am well and truly kicking myself that i missed Prodigy, theres no way im missing Underworld. You can't help but think the experience could rival the DVD ;)
Unfortunately i reckon Underworld NEEDS a huge fesitival to get the most out of their act. It sucks that BDO is the only one who can probably afford them though.
Well im spent...rock on

if they are playing the outdoor stage, im sure half the punk rockers will fuck right off early cause 'techno is shit'. it will be absolutely nuts, regardless.

RBB I'm going to have to diagree with you. Although BDO usually clashes with Rainbow searpent and as a result have missed a few the BDO is usually a good time if you let yourself enjoy it. These acts should be in the boiler room but I will see then anywhere.
REMEMBER : Its your friends that make a good time.

meh, underworld are lacking without darren emerson anyway.
i came across 'a hundred days off' last week for $1 (go china for the quality piracy!), and unless it's the kind of album that has to grow on me, it's got nothing on there previous stuff.

Pffffftttt ... BigDayOut's an absolute fucking ball. The last year I wasnt that happy with the lack of quality acts (imho) but for the few years preceeding that it was just brilliant.
Turn up on the day, go to enjoy yourself and weirdly you might just do that. Alternatively get your ticket, have the huge whinge about how shit its going to be and have a pretty boring day.
Its a great festival. The setup is fantastic, massive, well faciliated and quality.

Nazi 6 week rules?
Ha, if you read the Aus Events forum guidelines, you'd find:
7. When to post a thread.
Please keep in mind how far off an event is. Anything around 6-8 weeks off is good. If its a LARGE event or festival you can extend that to approx 8-12 weeks. Try to avoid putting up threads that are MONTHS and MONTHS away. Mods will shut down any threads that are considered too far away and re-open or start another when it gets closer to the event.
However, the BDO is too far away in the opinion of the events mods to warrant a thread... if you've got a problem with the guidelines, feel free to e-mail an Aus Events mod.

Global: erm, thought Darren Emmerson was in fact playing with them. He did for Creamfields this year in August.
I bloody hope it doesn't clash with Rainbow Serpent! I can remember a hella lot of a people last year doing the Rainbow->BDO run though.

alrighty...looks like I'm off to BDO this year. I had already considered it but damn this just confirms it!

^^^^^^^ Have to agree wiv mayday on this one. i'll be there with bells on and a stupid grin. :)

its underworld... nuff' said... catching them live would be a honour, having seen their "everything, everything" dvd (the only concert footages that made me wanna put it on at home, and consume drugs).
global and any other detractors of underworld : darren emerson's absence from the team has made no difference to their sound, they still rock.
despite the fact that their latest album has been long awaited and hyped... and much debate over how much emerson's absence would impact underworld... there will always be naysayers who bitch and whine that underworld is not the same as the "good old days" (whatever THAT means)... however, one must realise, before making such unfounded comments, that underworld has had THEIR time, they were groundbreaking and continue to be innovative, but they CANNOT be assumed to live up to the hype of their early success.
i am sick of hearing people who long for the "old underworld sound" for the sake of coming off as old skoolers.
the latest album IS underworld, but one cannot listen to and expect it to have the impact as their first (or other earlier) album; that time is passe.

Main Stage seems a little shitty, though having just recently seen Underworld I can tell u that their live show at the moment is the fucking bomb, and considering they'll have polished it more and more by the time they get around to Aus it should be well sweet..
Still its a khunt for them not to have been booked for TT, it woulda been that bit more suitable methinks.. Then again, either way ur gonna hafta put up with some dickheads, either of the punk rock or cokehead variety. Anyhoo, have a giggle at all the jaded punkers who thought bdo was better back in the day when they didn't sell out to all that 'techno raver crap' and then run up the front where all the fans are, cos hopefully theres no fucking moshpit... Otherwise i'll be just about ready to completely shatter the concept of plur in one fell, baseball bat wielding, swoop.
Nuff Sed

a few points.
1. who called it? :D
2. have a fucking cry. the big day out is a good fun event. if you cant put up with 'punk rockers' its your fault. if they give you shit, its not worth your time worrying about them. ive never had a problem at the five or six bdo's ive been to. everyone was getting down to the prodigy both times i saw them there. a couple of years ago i was dancing to the chems beside a fcuking monstrous scary looking goth, who was obviously there to see NIN but stayed behind to hear a bit of 'techno' as well. in fact, this is the first evidence of music snobbery ive seen in regards to the BDO.
3. underworld are huge and have a wide ranging appeal. the main stage of the BDO is a perfect place for them to play. underworld are practically pop (imo 2 months off is a blatant grab for the mainstream).
4. whose to say (at this stage) they wont do their own shows as well?

I don't really care where they play......Underworlds show @ 99 BDO was one of the best live shows i've ever seen :)
Has it been 100% confirmed they are playing the main stage????
I've never had any problems with 'rockers' at the BDO. Most of them are also there to enjoy the music!!!
As Airwalk said...it's your friends that make the day :)

i'll ignore the mega-overcommercialisation of the whole thing (somewht ironic for karl hyde to be happy to play at such an event)
pfft. Tomato make ads like you and every other graphic whore. Karl Hyde has never really struck me as the next Naomi Klein.
I'll be there anyway. Front. Centre. Ubercandyflipping.

firstly, on the whole emerson thing...it is generally regarded that 100 days off is up there with dubnobasswithmyheadman...i won't bother quoting the many reviews etc, but its now quite obvious that emerson had very little input to underworld after the initial introduction to the dance scene. hyde has admitted in several interviews recently that emerson did sweet fuckall toward the end. considering underworld are thrown in the same bag as orbital, leftfield and prodigy, the fact that their fourth album is rgarded as some of their best music is something none of the others managed to do.
and no, emerson won't be playing with them. they don't like each other.
secondly, dante...just heckling you dude, you guys do a good job keeping the forum clean ;)
thirdly, vurt...as always, a man who knows his music.
fourthly, i believe it will be confirmed on november 4, when underworld announce all the dates for their final batch of shows. don't shoot me if they're not playing, nothing official has been announced, but they haven't denied it when asked about it, and lees&west (bdo promoters) have hinted at it.
fifthly, 86...should that be naomi klein™?? ;) admittedly tomato have odne lots of ads. but as far as i know none of them have sold out creativity for corporations. their D&AD awards were for a red cross campaign and a BBC Radio campaign (from memory)...regardless, tomato are a design collective, they must do commercial work to survive, and while they embrace many of the values underworld do, they aren't underworld. karl and rick are fairly definate about their motives as musicians and what they feel they can achieve through it. they are one of the few groups poromoting deglobalisation and all associated corporate denegration that have made it. (i'm not gunna turn this into another radiohead argument either ;) )
sixthly(hrmm..thats a lot)...i'm not complaining about the fact they're playing, i'm complaining that probably due to some wanky clause in their contract with lees&west, that they most likely wont be allowed to play their own shows outside bdo. which sucks. still...anyone who's heard the blue mountains set know that hasn't stopped them in the past...
