anyone watch this show? its kinda new on starz. tonight was episode 5 and i missed it. :\

im sure everyone knows his story and its def one of my favorites. i wasnt impressed with the graphics(?) of the first episode but it got better since then. kinda matirix/300-like wit the slow down blood spurting action. overall it gets into alot more detail of this dudes story than the movie did. plus theres a good amount of hot bitch nudity=D

**also if anyone knows when the next airing of episone 5 is ( called shadow something?) i'd appreciate it since online lied to me about when its on. jersey (east coast) time of course**

I watched about 10 minutes of it and didn't really get into it so I stopped. You can stream it for free if you have netflix though.

If you like violence like you have never seen before, sex scenes that border on pornography and language that would make a 12 year old boy cringe then you will love this show. It's been a lot of fun to watch so far. There is not a single line spoken in film or television more powerful then "kill them all". Shit gets me pumped up.

^haha yes thats how i feel. its pretty funny to hear them mix in shakespearean (?) sounding lines when its rome. last time i watched it i was yaked up and i was screaming at the tv when spartacus was in the pit. lol

I started watching it last night. It's entertaining. Nothing wrong with blood, guts, porn and swearing!! I like it. I do think they are trying too hard to make it like 300 though. We shall see though.

I might have to track this down. From a couple of reviews I've read the first episode is beyong crap but the series really picks up after a while. I loved Rome and 300; this would lie somewhere between the two right? With much lower production values and more gratuitous violence?

Lol at the imdb plot keywords: cult favourite, beautiful women, homoerotic

^Nowhere near as homoerotic as 300. That shit got on my last nerve. Spartacus is tight but not on the level that I'd tune in every week to watch it. It's great when you've got on demand and there's nothing else to watch.

I hated the first episode. Felt much weaker than HBO's Rome.

After watching the first episode the show really picked up for me. Its got much better blood and gore than 'Rome', but the drama as well as the shooting locations seem less refined.

Worth watching.

I've been catching up on the entire first season onDemand, and I love it. It was really easy to get in to - the constant "hot bitch nudity," as the OP put it, certainly helps.

I've only made it to the 5th episode so far, but it's great.

Def. concur, the first 3 episodes were weak.. reminded me of cinemax worthy smut. The last episode I believe is the best so far, and the cinematography has gotten more professional and experimental IMO.

Lovin' it, specially seein' spartacus naked. drools......

The first three episodes, I think, were demonstrating Roman culture with all the sexual indulgence. Once Spartacus became a gladiator, they started to focus more on that now that the cultural themes were established. I assume there will still be tons of sex, but probably less than the first few episodes.

That's my theory.

But I have to admit, Lucy Lawless naked = smoking hot! For all I care, every episode could be just her walking around naked and I would be perfectly happy. Shit, I'd probably like the show more than I do already.

First of all, even trying to compare anything to Rome will result in disappointment. It's my humble opinion that nothing will touch the brilliance of that saga for some time.

Now with that out of the way, I am really enjoying Spartacus. I do have some grievances, but they are always quickly drowned out in short order by a new plot development, or badass fight scene.

finished all 9 episodes this week. loved it.

they leave it pretty wide open for a second season, any word?

^ There are still 2 more episodes till the end of the season.

Second season is supposed to start filming next month but has been delayed because the actor who plays Spartacus has been diagnosed with lymphoma and is undergoing treatment. No word on when filming will start - or if it will start at all. :(

I hope he's alright.

'Spartacus' Star Andy Whitfield Is Cancer-Free & Ready To Return To The Starz Series

Welsh-born Whitfield was diagnosed with treatable Stage 1 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in early March during a routine checkup just as the show was about to start shooting Season 2. He began treatment immediately while production was put on hold. About five weeks ago, tests revealed that Whitfield was clear of cancer and three weeks ago, he completed his treatment. Whitfield, who thanked Starz executives for sticking with him and supporting him through his ordeal, has already started his own training for what is a very physically demanding role and will start vigorous boot camp training at the end of July.

While Whitfield was undergoing treatment, Starz announced a six-episode Spartacus prequel focused on two other characters from the series, played by Lucy Lawless and John Hannah. Whitfield will appear in two of the episodes and is expected to get in front of the camera sometime in October, giving him plenty of time to get in shape. (He notes that for the first season, he only had a month to prepare.) Upon wrapping the prequel, the cast and crew are expected to segue directly into filming Season 2 of the original series.

Okay I finally got around to watching a few episodes of this. As I'd read the first couple were mediocre at best with pretty average CGI, cringe-worthy dialogue, etc. I'm up to about episode 6 now and it's geting a little more gripping. The action is decent though and the fights done pretty well (even if they're trying a bit too hard to emulate 300).

Haha I do have to say there is an extreme amount of flesh in the series though!!! Much more time watching these oiled-up, freakishly muscular men and I'm going to start questioning my sexuality 8) =D

Haha, spartacus will give you teh gay.

man, i never knew ancient rome was filled with so many maori

This simply cannot be compare to the absolute brilliance that Rome is. They are two very different shows.

The blood & gore is fun in a way that that effects are some what obvious leading you to forget how brutal and violence the same scenes could come across if shot differently.

Yeh sure the language is on par with HBO's Deadwood which almost seems unfitting as does the nudity and the borderline pornographic sex scenes. But all these things make it so damn enjoyable to watch.

Side note, I went to high school with one of the characters in this :)
