Let me clear this up first. I am not Jaded. Im sure (God forbid it ever happens) I will admit to being so......
After a few conversations of late I get the feeling many ravers (non-jaded) feel the same.
But I have finally accepted the 'scene' that I so loved and enjoyed is gone. Maybe it has been temporarily surpressed, maybe it has hit a down point and shall rise again, but at the moment it FUCKING STINKS And I do not believe it is me. I have not changed my veiw of others and my music etc etc.......
Why you ask? Why has it changed? Im sure most of you know.
People are just taking it all too seriously. Can't go, not my favourite DJ, not my favourite music, not my favourite venue, not my favourite drinks, not my favourite fucking decor, not my favourite fucking whateva.
WHERE is the vibe people? What happened to hands in the air, smile at a stranger, talk cod-shit to them all night and feeling the music.
Maybe the honeymoon is over for the XTC generation. Maybe this is why I do, on some freaky fukked up level, enjoy all age raves. I walk around and see people who are 'new', they havent been corrupted by jadedness or seriousness. They don't care if people look at their fluffy fluro clothes or their drug induced smile. They are there to have fun! They know what is they came for.I tell them... hold onto what you are feeling now and rememeber how it feels when you forget why you are doing this.
Smiles all round, a few 'how r u man. Having a good night?' comments to strangers...... Thats what it was like for us. But go into a over 18 so called 'rave; and it fukn bites. Wankers coked up and thinking they rule all. People complaining about mixing, lighting, sound, venue, what she is wearing, look at him, he said she said.. AAAAARRRRRGGHHHHH shut the fuck up all of you please. Let loose and remember what it was like when u first started.
I say bring back the underground rave scene. Fuck the consequenses. Piss into the wind and fukn enjoy yourselves Say a big Fuckoff to overpriced, over commercialised and underratted big dollar raves. Fuck off to these promotors who are interested more in your fucking dollar than your entertainment. Fuck off to organisers who have no fucking idea what we want...
Let's get back to our roots. The map points, the rushing around trying to find it..... Do you remember what a night out used to be? It was a big event...Getting ready, getting excited, ringing your friends, finding the venue, letting loose and finding the recovery. Sometimes it would get broken up.. WOW.. a bit more excitement in the night. It would always get put back on. Just wait for the phone calls and find the second venue...... sweeeeet
So basically its a big FUCK OFF. Fuck off to what we have now and create what we used to have, and what it should be. Because I think we need to remember what it is we are doing and why we are doing it.
To have fun right?

Not jaded?? You could have fooled me.
I still have fun. And I'm jaded! Don't let the shit bother you. If you and your crew are having fun does it matter what other people are doing?
Choose to go to the non commercial parties. They're still around. You just have to find them. If you're already doing that, why whinge about the rest of the 'scene'?
Anything that's good will always become popular. Popular means commercial. You can't change it. And the 'scene' won't go back to how it was.
I see your point about all ages raves...and newbies who don't know what it was like a few years ago having the best time of their lives. But they'll be whinging just like you in a couple of years about how shit the scene is then to how it is now.
Either accept the scene as it is or put on your own parties to try and change it.
This thread is just going to turn into another boring whinge session. *sigh*

So what you're essentially saying is lets have more raves and less dance parties? If that's the case then I totally agree. Although it takes balls to put on an illegal warehouse party, it would be nice if more people did. :)
I might comment more on this later cos it's an interesting topic. It's just a tough issue to try to tackle on a Monday after a big weekend... ;)

blufluffybunny i kinda agree with you. i mean im 23 i still go out for a good time, i dont particuly care who the djs are, as long as they no how to play, i still feel a good dj is one that plays the crowd like if the crowd is really up for it then play accordingly not some pre rehersed set.
i dont mind the all ages, i do mind however when i see some kid who looks 12 and is peaking their tits off..i can understand a 15, 16 or 17 year old but i dont get it when theyre 12 (well those that look alot younger than the average person attending, which is usually 16/17).
i think the whole scene is going to the shit house i mean look at utopia on nye, the promoters had their security groping everyone who walked through the gates and not taking any responsibility for it.
subbies once a great place to go out to is now full of coke head wankers who alot of them have moved down from oxford st (seriously they not that hard to pick out, i use to go clubbing there, i no the look and attitude that comes with places like dcms and nv) and drunks for that matter. who just want to pick up and have no perception of wot it means to be a raver. fuck i just go out to meet people and have a good time, i dont want some dickhead who cant keep his hands to himself all over me all nite. if i wanted to pick up there are better places than subbies to do it at.
anyway thats my bitch about how everything is going these days its all about money hungry corporations who have lost touch with why the whole scene got to where it is in the first place. good music, good vibe, and a friendly crowd always makes an awesome nite out.

Hahaha.. Jaded. Please.....
Im stating the obvious. Its a bit hard to ignore all these factors when it effects my night so much. I can ignore it or do something about it.
I choose to do somehting about it
I hope this thread doesnt turn into a bitching, whinging flame war...... Im just telling you why I think the scene is dead...
And what we shall do to bring it back.

oh god. not this again. check out people saying this same thing almost ten years ago here and here and here and here.
sure you are feeling this, but so does everyone else. it's called growing up. most non rave people will feel it about their work, relationships etc. rave people are just lucky to have a "scene" to project their disillusionment onto, something exterior to them to hang this feeling on.
rave is triply suitable for this as it captures a youthful feeling, seems to be anti-establishment, and has a sponsor drug. but what happens when you get a bit older, the commercialism becomes too obvious, and the drugs lose their magic? well two things, become a jaded old fuck like me, and see rave as just another subculture like all the rest, or close your eyes to the contradictions and just enjoy yourself.
you just gotta pick which one you want to do. neither is better or worse than the other. it's just about what gets you thru the night.

All you need is an empty warehouse, speakers, decks, a couple of lights, a DJ or two, and some word of mouth... anyone who was at Phreeloadin Pharmacy will attest to that. And if you're serious about the line "and what we shall do to bring it back", then head out to Port-Melbourne or Footscray or any other area with plenty of empty run down buildings, have a look around, and lets see what we can do!!! :)

*hugs johnboy*
Do I get a members card into the Jaded club then? ;)

Ummmm... In that case Bunny, I strongly recommend you keep March 2nd free...
*** Puts on best German voice *** I know nothing!!!

bfb: yup.
you also win the title of "Fastest Raver Life Cycle from Newbie to Jaded Ever Seen"

Yeshum Peter Poppa.
I have been told there is absolutely nothing happening on that date and I must keep it free to do nothing.....
*wink*
Johnboy, 5.5 years man! :)
FUK YOU COMMERCIAL SCENE. IM OFF TO PLAY WITH THE UNDERGROUND

maybe some people go primarily for the music? i know im not going to goto any event if theres no dj that i want to see.. i'd choose an event with 5 people in attendence and a dj i want to see rather than a 'huge event' with cheesey djs and 15,000 people..

The newbie to cynic award.
I thought I got that one?
Mind you I don't think I was ever really that much of a 'newbie' anyway. Blergh, cynicism rocks. However underground parties also rock. So bring on the underground! :)

bunny : dont worry, when you move on from going to raves for entertainment, theres a lot more fun to be had doing other things.. im pretty much over raves, but ill never be over partying!

id just like to say that everytime i see Mikey or jb out somewhere, they're always having a ball. :)
its ok to be jaded. as long as u still know how to have fun. :)

I refuse to stop wearing my Phat pants.
I like those.
I just dont like the scene at the moment.......
Maybe it was the 2g of coke I had over the last three days thats makin me KRANKY (prolly is)

Smiling and saying hi fourty times in a night, coupled to asking the same girl for their name for the 4th time and getting a hysterical laugh is all part of a good night.
Ive been at it a while now, well over a year and im sure everyone thats been around a bit has been there and done that, and jaded is just such an easy wall to bang your head against. But seriously...
What BFB is saying is worth merit. Tons of merit in fact. I like grabbing every stranger next to me and yelling to the DJ * I like dancing for 10 hours straight and leaving in a sweat drenched heap * I like the look of the complete strangers next to me smiling as if no matter where the fuck we came from, for the next few hours we may as well be family.
These things arent around any more not for the fact that Ive been doing it a while, they simply are dwindling. As 'raving' has become such a 'cool' thing to do, the people who do it have become more 'mainstream' (Yeah lets do the whole labels thing, but really).
I say mainstream not in a generalisation to the origin of people, but to the origin of their mindset. Raves were (and still are at times) colourful wonderful fantastic places. The fact that I went through 6 months of shit and then stumbled onto a Labyrinth party was a tribute to this fact.
I walked into a venue and fuck it that it wasnt some million dollar place and the dj's hadnt been flown in from Uzbekistan ... Everyone around me was wearing what they liked, smiling how they liked, saying hi how they liked and loving every second.
Remember kiddies, when you go 'raving' your not going 'clubbing'. The very fact that its called a rave implies something more, instead of nodding blankly and telling all your friends about this new found 'thing' and how great it is. Stop for a second and the moment you walk in the door look for a stranger, smile at them and say hi.
We are the ones creating the steps that lead us into the pit, how about everyone stops bitching the next time they go out, and remember we are here to enjoy ourselves. Not because your mates need you their, not because you have nothing better to do.... because you WANT to be there.
So if you really *want* to be out their on the dancefloor with me, how about you fucking show it and smile for once... alright? :)
Remember people, its only fun till the lycra stings....
(I hope this in some way relates to the topic... I just started and couldnt stop [totally straight btw :p])

OK so I know it's a little bit different in Melbourne than in Sydney...but being a 'clubber' doesn't equate to not having a good attitude.
