FDA wants to change way that Opioid medicines are perscribed

If someone has time and decides to watch these videos or read the pdfs, please give a short summary, longer than one sentence if possible. Big thanks. I'm really interested in what it says but can't do it at the time.

here is the most important part

Healthcare providers who prescribe the drug have particular training
or experience or special certifications
• Pharmacies, practitioners, or healthcare settings that dispense the
drug be specially certified
• Drug be dispensed only in certain healthcare settings (e.g., infusion
settings, hospitals)
• Drug be dispensed to patients with evidence of safe-use conditions
such as laboratory test results
• Each patient using the drug be subject to monitoring
• Each patient using the drug be enrolled in a registry

# Part III - REMS

They have already started this with the new fentaynl drug Onsolis

Yay, I get a free escort when I get some vicodin if I ever happen to break my leg or get a tooth pulled! 8(

Oh man, this is a quick one-two punch from the fda with the hydro/oxy/apap medicines and now this. I think this whole rx opiate thing is gonna go south real soon.... And with the pods on that auction site now off... I wonder if they are about to make their final move that peices all these actions together.

It's not as dire as it sounds. The black market is always several steps ahead. Imagine how much black market Vicodin/Percocet will sell for now that people believe it is going off the market (even though that is almost gaurenteed never to happen with just one recommendation from a panel).

I can think of three opioid solutions to a dual pinch on prescription opioids (with new regulations like these, higher schedules, nationwide computer database to end doctor shopping, etc) and illicit opioids (massive Heroin sweeps, massive busts, source country eradication efforts stepped up, etc).

Desomorphine/Diacetylmorphine homebake, Bentley compounds, Fentanyls.

The dope will never stop flowing, ever.

Why crack down on opiates now? The damage has already been done. Everybody who wants to use opiates is already using them.

Heath ledger, anne nicole smith, michael jackson. Each one hasn't been enough to make the FDA move, but together, and which such regularity in the past 3 years i think is making them move.

On one hand, the drug companies are producing more dangourus opioids and maybe this will seperate into 2 classes. One class of opioids that will still be rxed like they are today, and another contraining the IR fentanyls, and ER oxymorphone and whatnot.

so if someone may abuse a medicine, he gets no pain relief (or anxiety relief or w/e)?

I have been in pain management for 8 years. My pain DR and my pharmacy both told me to look up these new fda rules that they want to implement. What the fda wants is to be able to micro manage every aspect of the process. Only certified DR, pharmacist, and patients will be able to be involved in opiate meds. They will be able to do spot checks (in there words demand to count your meds and drug test you at any time. The is coming from all the press of abuse. It is really going put the perscribing Drs, pharmisist and patient under Big brother. The black market for perscribed opiates will dry up forcing people to turn to heroin in my opinion.

How do we stop this from happening?

We cannot let them do this, its a crime against humanity. Reliable access to opiate pain relief is one of the single greatest achievements of modern medicine.

This makes me very sad. :(
