A look at tightrope walker Philippe Petit's high-wire routine performed between New York City's World Trade Center's twin towers in 1974

one of the best documentaries i've seen. the stunt itself was one thing, but the story leading up to how he pulled it off is incredible. inspirational as well. 5/5

trailer

I watched this just tonight. I don't remember feeling energised by something on film in a long time. This is a keeper.

I was waiting for a thread to emerge about this. Great documetary. Awesome how Philippe Petit has such an eccentric and lively personality, made the documentary so much more enjoyable.

bump

For some odd reason, I've been hearing a lot of hype around this movie in the past week or so from different people/websites/etc. Might be a sign that its time to give it a shot.

A man on a wire? Judging a book by its cover for a second, it sounds boring.

I know I'm wrong, it's just a first impression!!

It sounded boring to me too. Like, REALLY boring. But then it won the Academy Award for Best Docu and I was intrigued again. It was pretty fantastic and it is brought to mind still every now and then 6 months later. It's a documentary I'd watch again, and generally, I'm not interested in re-watching documentaries. It'll definitely put a smile on your face and some motivation in your heart. At least, that is, if you're human (which nobody really knows right M_P ;)).

Good film. I don't quite get why people think it's the best documentary in years though.

FWIW I rewatched it last night. It's entirely rewatchable which is another redeeming quality.

, but man talk about dedication right?
no doubt, if i recall correctly im pretty sure philippe was waiting in the dentist office and saw an article about the WTCs being constructed and set his mind to tight rope walk between them then. set your mind to it and u can accomplish your goals ! hard work and dedication is what it takes. we can apply this positive attitude to many if not all aspects of life.

This is quite simply the most beautiful documentary at the end.

It was quite simply brilliant. I almost cried.

saw this mentioned in the documentary thread, bumpin it to add Philippe Petit's TEDTalk that went up yesterday.

Even a death-defying magician has to start somewhere. High-wire artist Philippe Petit takes you on an intimate journey from his first card trick at age 6 to his tightrope walk between the Twin Towers.
