Hey all,

Sometimes it's easy to forget that there's a big wide world of bluelight outside of Aus social or perhaps you've just never really realised what else is on offer here. Whatever the case may be, we've invited the mods of the other community forums to each have a thread here telling everyone about their forum and what it has to offer. First up is Philosophy and Spirituality. I expect the mods to be popping in to say hello here as well, so feel free to ask any questions you may have. I'd encourage you to drop into their forum check out something new today and maybe even start a thread there if you're feeling game!

-Aus Social Mod Team :D

Philosophy and Spirituality (P&S), formerly known as Thoughts and Awareness (T&A), is a forum where matters of some depth get brought up. Anyone who's curious about the world around them, or just wants to bat around ideas they've been mulling over in their minds, should try posting in this forum, because you'd be surprised at the gamut of perspectives you'll get on it.

The topics that come up most frequently concern spirituality, religion, magick and the occult, existential questions about purpose in life, ethics, postmodernism, political theory, the paranormal, culture, mysticism, meditation and yoga, realizing one's full potential, and metaphysics. Discussions concerning drugs are welcome as long as they're tangent to something philosophical or spiritual. I feel we share a border, and a common nomadic population of regulars, with Science and Technology, Current Events and Politics, Words, and Psychedelic Drugs.

Some people come looking for a kindred spirit they can talk to about things on their mind, with someone who utilizes the same framework to see the world. Others are like the people you meet wearing courderoy jackets and sipping espresso in a funky coffee shop, looking for some intellectual action. We're a community where every possible worldview is respected. We may not agree or frame our notion of life in the same terms, but we respect the rights of anyone to believe or disbelieve anything.

I'm proud to keep this forum running, because philosophy and spirituality have a long common history with psychotropic drug use, which should never be forgotten by either side. I value drugs partly as a mystical tool personally, and am happy to see others who are keeping up this ancient tradition. From my own reading, also, I am led to believe that moderate, low-harm-risk drug use correlates well with ceremonial use, integrated into a cultural and spiritual tradition, whether we're talking Jewish wine, Hindu bhang, or Siberian fly agaric.

These threads are a little taste of the kinds of songs we play around here:

Atheists that believe in the Soul, or Infinite Consciouss/oneness.

What would it take?

Would you ever go back?

Kids these days

Post your fun theories on life/existence/etc.

Self-Initiation Into The Golden Dawn Tradition

Your P&S mods are MyDoorsAreOpen and complexPHILOSOPHY :)

Interesting. I kinda get the idea that this is hinting at the threads started here (in Aus Soc) on occasion that have topics that seem more fit for Philosophy and Spirituality.

I like P&S as a forum, I will browse it on occasion. And post on the odd occasion. I think MDAO does a great job, and I enjoy reading his posts.

However I like those topics I mentioned as they stand in Aus Soc. I like to get the perspective of the Aus Soc posters on those kinds of things, as it is different to the kind of responses that similar topics would get in P&S (I think?). I find P&S a bit, um, drugged up at times (think: rambling psychedelic users).

Though that is based on a limited exposure on my own part. I do see myself having a closer look at P&S in future. :)

There's actually going to be a thread from each of the different community forums so it's not aimed at any threads in particular. One of the things that has always stood out in aus social is the variety of threads that we get here and we don't want to detract in any way from that. However, it's also nice on occasion to step out an see what else is on offer and perhaps discover a different part of bluelight with another range of life perspectives to engage with. Share the love around, so to speak :)

haha, yea I thought that might not be the case. Mazdan hasn't started a thread here for a while, after all. ;)

I always venture out of Aus Social. Mainly I post in Sex, Love and Relationships, but other forums I browse regularly include:

Second Opinion
Drug Culture
Philosophy and Spirituality
The Dark Side
Words
The Lounge (nudie thread, hello ;))

Anyhow, looking forward to hearing what the P&S mods have to say! :)

Umm... Don't the FAQs make it pretty clear what each forum is about?

Is this a result of Lounge people whining once again about us being so exclusionist because we don't want to daily make 16 threads of toilet humour and another 14 full of nerds trying to online screw girls who post revealing pictures?

I'm sure everyone here is aware that there are other places to post without being spoon fed them.

Is every forum getting a thread for every other forum?

Heh, thank god I quit modding - it's becoming more and more like my day job!! ;)

Some of the newer members may not know what else is out there, depending on how they found BL in the first place.

But yes, it does smack somewhat of agenda. ;)

Another technique could be to randomly redirect threads at will - then - 'surprise' you're in another forum! Now that's what I call guerrilla marketing.

Not to be confused with gorilla marketing (gorilla-grams etc).

It's a gram of powdered gorilla. You snort it and you go ape shit man.

I remember speaking with a group of friends about guerrillas, and a girl piped up with:

"Oh God, i had no idea they were training gorillas to go to war!"

:D

Anyway, to answer your question, LP, no, there isn't any other reason for this, other than to remind people that there are other forums out there, and that some of the threads posted in Aus Social may be better suited to forums such as Second Opinion, Philosophy & Spirituality or Science & Technology... or whatever. :)

That's the "agenda" I saw. ;)

And before we disregard LP's point... Is this happening for the other social forums? Or just Aus Soc...

I'm just asking by the way.

Well, we wanted to put it in a nice way, but now that you've highlighted it, we could just say 'errrr, fellas, perhaps you could have a think about where this thread might be best suited, rather than just here in Aus Social". ;)

The issue here in Aus Social is unique, in that it's an island, to a degree, on this messageboard (pun intended). The occurrence of people posting Aus-specific posts in other forums is a lot lower than the occurence of people posting threads in here that are better suited to other forums, but plans are being made to hopefully make this a board-wide effort.

haha

No problems at all.

I just wanted someone to admit it so that I didn't look like my usual paranoid self. ;)

Having said all of what i did, it's also really just about creating more of a community feel - and encouraging some of our more, er, loyal Aus Socialists ;) to venture out, so to speak.

:)

There's no real agenda, it's just something we as mods have noted. :)

Personally I don't really feel like posting in other region specific social forums because of relevancy and as a world wide discussion forum, The Lounge just doesn't cut it for me. Because I enjoy discussing serious things as well as having fun and there's no room for that in The Lounge.

I post in the other forums about various things when I feel the need.

What I'm trying to say is I assume most other people feel the same way and a push out the door is not needed.

Although they don't seem to exist now, the European forums had plenty of posters that I never saw anywhere else...

Anyways I'll quit griping, just speaking my piece on the issue :)

That's absolutely your prerogative love, and i know that i don't post in every forum on the board either, we're just highlighting that there ARE other forums out there, and it's obvious from your respnose, you're not our target audience. ;)

Ive ventured around a reasonable amount but aside from not having the time to even read Aus Soc the other forums have been... well, crap basically

Philosophy and Spirituality: Being pretentious, verbose and showing off my intellect by using esoteric knowledge and obscure vocabulary makes my opinion better
Dark Side: Its a good forum but i dont have the energy to fight off that wall of despair during my down times
Second Opinion: Um... yeah, i dont get my advice from strangers on a drug forum
Words: I is emo, here me raw (now hit refresh 20times a day for your 2 comments written by the same people)
The Lounge: Its Jackass the written edition. Pity the author is an OCD, ADD, brain damaged, try hard, 8yo...
