Film: The Great Debators

I recently made the tough decision to to see this film (tough because there are quite a few movies I currently out that I want to see; Sweeney Todd, Charlie Wilson's War, I am Legend, Walk Hard to name a few) and was very happy that I made the choice to go with The Great Debators.

Very powerful, uplifting film, great performances by nearly everyone, especially Denzel Washington (who also directed the film), Forest Whitaker and the young Denzel Whitaker (who although he looks a bit like him and plays his son in the film, is of no relation to Forest). Highly recommended. I am a big Denzel fan, almost to the point where I feel he can do no wrong, but like I said, he kicks ass again in this one (American Gangster and this film in the same year? amazing).

Here's a quick synopsis for those who haven't heard of the film.

The film, based on a true story, revolves around the efforts of debate coach Melvin B. Tolson (Denzel Washington) at historically black Wiley College to place his team on equal footing with whites in the American south during the 1930s, when lynch mobs and Jim Crow laws abounded. The Wiley team eventually succeeds to the point at which they are able to take part in a debate with Harvard University.

I'd give this 4/5 stars, and would appreciate a poll for this one. Let me know what you guys think.%)

does anyone ever see the movies that I do? I swear this is like the third film post I made that completely tanked. :D
