From Mike Judge (creator of Beavis and Butthead, Office Space and King of the Hill) comes Idiocracy, a black comedy satirizing consumer culture, globalization and a society of freefalling IQs. The basic premise is that two very average people are put into hibernation for 500 years, only to wake up in 2505 and find themselves in a world imploding from extreme stupidity where they are the smartest people on Earth.

Trash is piled in huge mountains (causing the Great Trash Avalanche of 2505)because society doesn't know what else to do with it. Crops are watered with Gatorade and everything has a corporate tie-in; the denizens of 2505 Earth are basically all mentally retarded and the number one show on TV is called "Ow My Balls!" So basically, not too different from modern society. My verdict?

Concept: Good.

Delivery: Poor.

The pacing and special effects are choppy and inconsistent. The satire is good and Mike Judge's track record obviously speaks for itself, but the film relies a little too heavily on poop and fart jokes. Almost certainly a lot of these problems with production can be attributed to the studio, 20th Century Fox, which sat on the film for over a year before releasing in only 7 cities (New York was not one of them) with virtually no marketing. At some point Fox obviously balked and wanted to distance itself from the project; had Mike Judge had the full support of the studio I think a lot of the problems the film has could have been ironed out.

This same concept in the hands of a master satirist like Terry Gilliam would really be something to behold; as it is, Idiocracy is merely a poor man's Brazil.

"OW MY BALLS!!!" would be a great show for tv today lol

i did like Idiocracy, i thought it was a funny movie and the fact that they water there crops with gatorade is highlarious.

the acting was a bit cheezy thought but i liked it

I didn't think it was great at first, but bits of the movie keep getting stuck in my head. Maybe a second viewing is needed.

^ thats because we were nodding lol

i didnt remember it the first time i saw it because my eyes were in the back of my head

My friend who helps me...Sell the paintings and shit......

Iunno, i thought the part where she kept gettin paid to not have sex with ppl was pretty funny, also the hospital visit was pretty fucked up..

don't take it seriously, and it is funny as hell.

it has great moments.

Just saw this tonight.

I thought it was a mixed bag. Yes, I laughed out loud a lot, and much of it is side-splittingly funny; it's amazing how Judge is able to ridicule our own obsession with idiocy by exaggerating it for the big screen, the hallmark of any talented satirist. However, the thin characters didn't do much for me; this came off as movie much more interested in the scenario than the people involved.

Three out of four--better yet, three and-a-half, but I don't quite feel it merited four.

yeah, it was a mixed bag for me, but not a wasted two hours.

"going family style" is probably the most disgusting term for group sex that i've ever heard, as well.

Idiocracy - Joe Bauers, an Army librarian, is judged to be absolutely average in every regard, has no relatives, has no future, so he's chosen to be one of the two test subjects in a top-secret hibernation program. He and hooker Rita were to awaken in one year, but things go wrong and they wake up instead in 2505. By this time, stupid people have outbred intelligent people; the world is (barely) run by morons--and Joe and Rita are the smartest people in America. 8/10 I haven't laughed so hard in a very, very, very, long time. Featuring quotes such as....

Doctor: [Laughs] Right, kick ass. Well, don't want to sound like a dick or nothin', but, ah... it says on your chart that you're fucked up. Ah, you talk like a fag, and your shit's all retarded.

Even thinking about it makes me giggle.

Pretty close to the same shit that's on these days. But yeah, I'd watch it too.

I thought this movie was badly executed.

brought to you by carl's junior

I am SURE there's a japanese game show that would have an english title of OW MY BALLS!

I think if Judge hadn't done Office Space, people would be a lot more receptive to Idiocracy. It's very much in the Beavis And Butthead tradition.
But now that people know that he can do smart comedy when he wants to, Judge is being held to a higher standard.
I thought the movie had enough laughs to be worth 90 minutes of my time. I'd give it 7.75 out of 10.

I just caught the second half of it on HBO last night. I thought it was funny as hell, myself. And in an age where people rely on computers instead of their own brains,(spellchecking, math)I don't see this movie's vision of the future being too far off target.

Mya's character, besides giving me a raging hard-on,did bring up a great point. People with genius IQs,like Einstein, most likely feel the frustration Mya and Luke felt when talking to the idiots in this movie. Only we are the idiots. No wonder geniuses usually go insane.
