film: Suicide Club

Anyone else seen this movie? Fucking incredible Japanese cinema. Also, it was the first movie to shock me in a looooong time.

Giving the cops rolls of [censored cuz it'd be a spoiler] was probably the most shocking aspect of the movie, for me. Also, you gotta love that train scene at the beginning. =D

So, what'd ya think?

I liked it. Strange view into the massive suicide problem in japan. If this movie shocked you, and you like to be shocked, then rent 'Ichi the Killer' by Takashi Miike. That movie is seriously shocking and disturbing, but I couldn't take my eyes off it.

Oh man for like 2 weeks I tried to get everyone to see this movie. In fact, this movie makes me nostalgic about a girl I got to know by introducing it to her. its fun to watch it over and over because honestly, its really hard to figure out the storyline as well as the point they trying to make about life.

The message is kinda strange its like the only way to know that you are truly alive is by being metaphorically capable of killing yourself. or something like that

how bout that one weird flamer dude, "because deaaaaad. because deaaaad. because dead, oh shine all night loooong"

the ending is quite possibly the strangest ending I have ever witnessed in any film, book or song

i loved it. in addition to it being so deliciously morbid, the message was a good one. and psychetool - sorry, but you are SO off.

***contains spoilers***

Since I got Netflix, my friends and I have been getting into thses types of films. Audition, Ichi the Killer, Suicide Club . . .

We watched Suicide Club last week. My jaw just dropped in the opening scene, I just couldnt believe thats how they started the move. I LOVED IT!

The message of the story I think got a little garbled throughout the movie. Im actually still trying to figure it out. I would love to hear more what everyone else thinks about this movie.

Where the hell did The Bat come into all of this?

How did the website with the red & white dots know how many people were going to kill themselves. Especially in light of the random suicides like the kids at school who just decided to jump off of the roof, or the cop that killed himself.

The rolles of skin that were delivered to the cop - some of those poeple killed themselves and some did not. Can someone explain this? For example, the son of the cop was "skinned" and he killed himself. This means he went to one of those shows where those creepy kids were and was skinned. But the girl at the end of the movie was skinned and did not kill herself. Im a little lost about this.

Thoughts???

i haven't seen it in a while, so i don't remember as much as i'd like, but i'll do what i can.

the movie seems to be saying that japanese culture has little self worth. the people who kill themselves have lost a connection to themselves, but they're still connected to the rest of the world and all its superficial offerings. they kill themselves cuz they dont really care about themselves and cuz everyone else is doing it. the crazy guys who claimed to be behind suicide club (from what i think i remember) conform by nonconforming, and also had the wrong idea. the roll of skin has to do with connectedness, and how everyone is connected to everyone else. in spite of this, it is most important to be connected to yourself, which is what those kids in the auditorium were getting at. because the main character is connected to herself, she doesn't kill herself.

i hope that helps.
