Can't believe there is no thread for this movie yet.

i saw it last night, and have to say I loved it. I would give it 4 stars out of 4 stars. I think it's defintely a "love it or hate it flick" and it's not laugh out loud funny, but the script is fantastic, the acting is top notch, and the story is recycled but still very fresh and new. Defintely a "feel good" movie, and worth checking out for sure.

Def one of my fav the last couple of years. That one scene where Giamatti is trying to get Church's wallet back . . . classic. Seriously though, the script, the characters, the setting, all very very good.

yeah, this really was a fantastic film. giamatti is such a subtle and interesting character actor.

when you look at the premise for this film, it almost seems impossible that it could actually be enjoyable (or funny), yet the script is so knowing that it just works in spite of that. perhaps even because of.

the whole thing that we feel uncomfortable watching these two guys making stupid fucking mistakes all the time but still living like normal human beings and having to cope with it is really quite poignant, and it doesn't happen very often that it's done well.

the book is 1000x better!!!.had a really cool redneck character in it that really should have been in the movie, that said i really do love this movie. the dvd has a "project searchlight" mockumentary thats really cool.

I thought it was just ok. The characters didn't really intrigue me that much. There were certainly some funny moments.

Unfairly, I couldn't help but compare it to Swingers, and Swingers owned this film.

I only watched this recently and I really enjoyed it. Was hooked from start to finish.

God the protagonist's friend was a cunt though...

Feel good? LOL I don't know if I agree with that. I thought it was like his friend was fucking him sideways throughout the flick.

But, I did like it quite a lot. I plan to buy it. :)

It was like a middle age "Road Trip."

Still funny as hell.

Also, if you live around santa barbara county, the gas stations have "Sideways" maps that chart out all the wineries/restaraunts/locations used in the movie...which is interesting if you enjoy wine tasting.

My friend actually printed out one of those maps online and did a wine-tasting tour up in Santa Barbara one weekend. He invited me to go with him, but I had an audition. (I ended up not being cast, which makes me bitter because I really wanted to go tasting. *angry snort*) Sideways was a kickass movie, and I'm really considering buying the DVD (which I rarely do, but this film really is something special.)

I thought this film was very middle of the road. I thought it was really slow moving and about 35 minutes too long but I enjoyed the wine jokes that only half of the audience got. :)

Saw this with my brother and enjoyed it thoroughly. We were probably laughing the hardest during the golf scene and the car/tree scene.

i think i might like it if i was 40....since i'm not i'll say that i thought it was a big waste of my time

i guess it had it's funny moments but i truly didn't like the guy's friend and how he used him for everything, and how spineless the main character was...it just seemed to move along so slow as well :p

It's strange, when it comes to love it or hate it movies like this, i can't help but fall somewhere inbetween.

The charcter development and acting was great, but there's an element of oversimplifcation of the protagonist's struggles which kept getting under my skin, especially in the first half of the film. There are a couple of scenes here which are stand-out good, but the film loses it's momentum at a few select points. Certaintly worth sitting through and watching, it's a very entertaining, albiet somewhat flawed film.

I think this movie was very middle of the road, too. Paul Giamati is fuckin awesome though.

i wasnt really that moved by this movie.
there were the funny bits, very well done.
there was the slowly building to nothing plot.
and giamatti was wonderful.
it broke, for the most part, my own personal type casting for church.
just wasnt really up there for me.
eh.

I too am one who *loved* this movie. I can't pinpoint it, but the story is just told so well.

I think the girlfriend of church is just a unique hottie, very sexy woman.

i loved maya's speech about why she is into wine. made me wish i was drinking some right then.
