The Inaugural 2005 ‘Australian Rock Paper Scissors Championships’ (ARPSC)
will be staged across the Nation with State & Territory Qualifying Rounds
scheduled for June & July & the National final in August. Please see venue
& competition details below. The ARPSC National Champion will go onto to
compete in the 2005 World RPS Championships (WRPSC) in Toronto, Canada in
October.

The 2004 WRPSC brought approx 1,000 competitors and spectators from around
the world to Toronto, Canada where players competed for the prestigious
title of World Champion and a total purse of CDN$10,000. Lee Rammage
(Burlington, Canada) took out the 2004 WRPSC Title with Heather Birrell
(Toronto, Canada) second & Chris Berggeren (Michigan, United States) third.

An internationally renowned sport, the history of Rock Paper Scissors (RPS)
is extremely rich. RPS is also know as; Jenken or Jan Ken Pon (Japan),
Roshambo (Southwestern U.S.), Shnik Shnak Shnuk (Germany), Ching Chong Chow
(South Africa), Farggling (U.S.) & Scissors Paper Stone (United Kingdom).

RPS is a decision making game of wits, speed, dexterity and strategy between
players who are unable to reach a decision using other means. The result of
a match is considered a binding agreement between the players. In the case
of professional or tournament play the decision is replaced by honour points
toward a championship title.

ARPSC competition rules are governed, maintained and approved by the World
RPS Society (WRPSS) under the guidance and authority of the World RPS
Steering Committee.

The game is played by substituting the elements of: Rock, Paper and Scissors
with standard hand signals. Rock: Is represented by a closed fist with the
thumb resting at least at the same height as the topmost finger of the hand.
Scissors: Is delivered in the same manner as Rock with the exception that
the index and middle fingers are fully extended toward the opposing player.
Paper: All fingers including the thumb are fully extended and horizontal
with the points of the fingers facing the opposing player.

Players have a full range of throws to play;
1 Rock: wins against Scissors, loses to Paper and stalemates against itself
2. Paper wins against Rock, loses to Scissors and stalemates against itself
3. Scissors wins against Paper, loses to Rock and stalemates against itself
4. Players may use any combination of these throws at any time throughout
the match.
5. The winner of the game is dictated by the player’s throw which beats that
of their opponent’s throw.

Along with a wealth of fame and admiration from RPS peers, some great prizes
are up for grabs including the major prize of an overseas Trip for one to
Toronto, Canada for the Australian Champion to attend and compete in the
2005 World RPS Championships including return airfares & 4 nights
accommodation.

Entry is free and registration will be accepted on the night of competition.
Players are encouraged to enter a team, themed if desired, or just fly solo.

Cool.

Me and a mate are getting really good at this.

We use this game to see who get's the first fix, and who has to wait half a minute. Since we do each other up.
