mike leigh is supposed to be one of the best (english) filmmakers around. sadly, this is the first work of his that i've seen.
it was brilliant. like, astonishingly, thought-provokingly, mind-bendingly brilliant. not enough superlatives and all that. whilst the acting is pretty amazing - the lead (whose name i've forgotten, criminally) is *perfect* - it's the script which makes it work. you'll never see a film with better rhythm than this.
