I'm really interested in seeing this movie, I think knowing that it is a true story I wouldn't even mind it being a bit boring..

I think it's incredible to be important enough to get a movie made about you...

I fucking loved this movie. He was a brilliant man, although i am biased as i am a huge fan...

Absolutely great.

Huge fan of Ray, and glad they actually wen through, and showed a great deal of his heroin issues. Not just glossing over it, like many other movies have in the past.

God, I just got back from seeing this film. Absolutely powerful stuff. It really hurt to watch that rehab scene, and it was amazing how images and shots were spliced together to create such a chaotic effect...visual dissonance. It's weird...I've never been through any of what he's gone through, but watching that stuff unfold onscreen is painful to me. I wholeheartedly recommend taking your whole family to this. ;)

film: Ray

"

Born in a poor town in Georgia, Ray Charles went blind at the age of seven shortly after witnessing his younger brother's accidental death. Inspired by a fiercely independent mother who insisted he make his own way in the world, Charles found his calling and his gift behind a piano keyboard. Touring across the Southern musical circuit, the soulful singer gained a reputation and then exploded with worldwide fame when he pioneered incorporating gospel, country, jazz and orchestral influences into his inimitable style. As he revolutionized the way people appreciated music, he simultaneously fought segregation in the very clubs that launched him and championed artists' rights within the corporate music business. Ray provides an unflinching portrait of Charles' musical genius as he overcomes drug addiction while transforming into one of this country's most beloved performers.

Ray is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Taylor Hackford (An Officer and a Gentleman); screenplay by James L. White, from a story by Hackford and White; and produced by Hackford, Stuart Benjamin, Howard Baldwin and Karen Baldwin."

What did everyone think of the movie?

i loved it, i think it is one of my favorites of the year!

There WAS a Ray thread in here back in November or thereabouts. I was the last one who posted in it, so I guess it got swept out to sea. :\

One of my picks for the year ....... deffo'

I was nearly in tears about 4 times throughout the movie

The job Jamie Foxx pulls off is perfect acting. I forgot I was watching a man playing Ray Charles, not watching Ray Charles himself . . . which I guess in the end is all an actor can aspire to do.

Pretty good movie with a positive message about opiate addiction. Whats the difference between the extended version and theatrical version, is there alot more added to the movie in the extended version or is it just a few scenes.

I'll probably end up watching the extended version sometimes soon as I am often bored

I saw this shit last night

Maaaan, i cant remember last time i saw a movie so good. it had me catchin feelins thats for sure.

it was amazing. im suprised more people aint talkin about it here, shit.

dont know what else to say but i loved that movie for real

Dude I've seen this twice now on HBO and i absolutely f*cking LOVE IT. I LOVE IT. Considering I dont exactly like Jamie Foxx (lol) Damn he was really good in this movie. Script, cinematography, acting, editing, flow....perfect. My only complaint was it was too short ....I would've loved Ray to be around 3 hours. :)
Those scenes with his mother (VERY good performance i might add!), his mistresses and his heroin addiction made me ache to the very edge of my soul.

i also watched it, finally a few months ago, despite foxx and liked it too.
he surprised me and i really was into the movie.
it was a better version on the idea in great balls of fire.

I loved it.

Stylishly filmed and edited; I liked the use of archival footage. Excellent use of lighting, color and sound (good sound editing is often overlooked in movies, but is especially noticeable in this film for obvious reasons). The acting was on point. The music was obviously great. Structurally, I like that the music was the driving force in the narrative; the flashbacks and other episodes in his life complemented the development of his style and shaped what he was doing as an artist. His rocky interpersonal relationships, for instance, do not dominate the screen time and divert you away from the essence of Ray Charles: his music.

This is how a biopic about a legendary musician should be done.

^well put.

I too thought it was an excellent film. Not only for the music and honest story telling, but because it was an awesome way to commemorate a musical genius. The film made a younger generation aware of the struggles of someone they may only know of by name, and a few catchy tunes now regurgitated in television commercials and movie soundtracks. I was infuriated when someone I know confused his with Stevie Wonder, "you know, that other black, blind guy who plays music".
