Film: The Devils Advocate

If there had to be a Satan that Hollywood has portrayed that would accurately describe the clever Nietzschian mentality that the Devil has, then "The Devils Advocate" makes me want to worship Satan and cheer for him as he releases plague upon plague of vice and vanity upon the world.

If you have the patience for longer movies and have the capability of thinking hard, intellectually or morally, about just what a films message is trying to convey, then The Devils Advocate is great because your left sitting there in all of its great cinematography, brilliant acting by Al Pacino and subtle plot intricusies and actually have a moral (or lack thereof) to it.

The basic idea is ... "God? Let me give you a little information about God. He's a prankster. What does he give man? Instinct! And I swear for his own amuesment, his own personal gag reel, he sets an opposition. Look, but don't touch. Touch, but don't taste. Taste! Don't swallow! Haha! And when you're jumping around from one foot to the next he's up there laughing his sick fucking ass off! He's a sadist! He's a tight ass! He's an absantee landlord! Worship that?! Never!" -- John Milton

If you can reign in Hell then serve in Heaven, why not? The basic pleasure principles ride in the rails of our loins and evolution while some groups out there don't want you to jerk off, because God is watching. What this is trying to say is that hedonism never felt so good, and blasphemy never felt so right. Excellently directed and superb in it's execution, I now devote my life to Satan. Vanity is definately one of my favorite sins.

Anyone else like?

film: devil's advocate

i really enjoy this movie
despite reeves.

pacino is one of my favorite bad guys ever in this flick, and the best portrayl of satan i have seen. witty, evil and suave.

yeah one down fall, as edvard mentioned, is the length. it gets tedious and slow at points. worth in it the long run though i suppose

When This film was first advertised I was in a state of awe, knowing that Al Pacino as Satan was something that could be perfect. It was. Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron add a good helpless couple to the story, and the plot twist ending leaves you with a dropped jaw and a sense that this movie is too good to be true. It's a guilty pleasure, just like the characters profess on screen, but it's well worth it. But why have a poll years later ?

^Why not? :)

I gave this a 4, and I never give out 4s. Some people really thought this movie sucked, but I loved every minute of it. Al Pacino was excellent, Reeves was excellent for the part IMO. The little arrogant pissant you want to punch in the face at times... I love Charlize a lot too.

The movie made me think, there were some great lines in the movie, I agree.

Funnily enough, after voting, the first three digits for the percentage of four stars voted was 666...

Good flick, at any rate. Looking forward to Reeves' next one coming out, forget what it's called, but it's of a similar genre.

^ It's an injustice to call The Devils Advocate a "Reeve's" flick ;)

Like Venus, I gave this 4 star's and I NEVER do that! This movie is one of the all-time great films by one of the all-time greatest actors.
And how about the women in this movie? Talk about smokin hott! :D

glad to see a good reception to this, because i love it, and i swear everyone i ever speak to hates it.

it's a really underrated film, imo.

I love this movie. Pacino is fuckin amazing as the devil.

Never!" -- John Milton"

This is some of my favorite dialogue from any movie. The script was well written, and Pacino delivers it perfectly. I highly reccomend this to everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I completely forgot about this movie. I have only seen it a few times, but I would have to say it is an excellent film. I just might have to watch it this weekend sometime

It was a good film, but its tough to stomach multipile times because Keanus southern accent is so terrible. It's almost as bad as Nicholas Cage in Con Air (it was funny in Raising Arizona, but that was a comedy so its ok.)

When this first came out and I was in middle school I really loved it. I saw it semi-recently though and noticed a lot of things wrong with it. Its not all that great of a movie. Still kind of fun to watch, mainly due to Al Pacino's performance but honestly, the movie kind of sucks. I gave it 2 stars.

Man i never seen this before but i did last nite and i thought it was pretty fuckin sick. I loved it. especially the part about "pressure."

i haven't seen this in a long while but i have always liked it...as much as i can like a movie with keanu in it. just like every time i come into this forum, there's usually a couple movie threads that make me dig up those particular flicks off my shelves. looks like i'm a have to dust off this movie and watch again. thanks for dredging this up. :)

Not perfect, but a big favorite; I love the way it insinuates the amount of sleaze John Milton is in, long before the climax, and how it reveals more and more about Kevin until POW!--the reason for every single one of his actions becomes clear.

A great movie, and not least because of Pacino's "I'm loving it!" acting. :)

Classic example of Al Pacino Energy (tm)... it even seemed to rub off on Keanu Reeves, de-zombifying him a bit. Entertaining as hell, no mental nutritional value. *** out of ****.

Meh...it was okay. I only watched this one for Al Pacino.
Listening to Keanu Reeves horrid accent irritated the crap out of me. And I found Charlize Therons character to be a bit too overly melodramatic for my taste. Just my opinion of course.
