very good acting and intense directing...storied carried along well...i am not a fan of violent movies but i give credit when credit's due; there was no overkill which is rare when so many action films end up having it. i especially liked how it portrayed the general reality of jail: all white cops, ethnic/minority inmates, and the fact that most inmates are non violent offenders, and the commonly seen irony that the most violent offender in there was much less violent and heinous than the police that arrested him.
 
Yeah it's an excellent film - the music throughout the film was the standout for me. Classic 80s tunage
 
its a 76 movie, with the classic ice cream van, the score was awesome, carpenter films always have great scores. he does the choons himself, there is a remake with larry fishburne and ethan hawke that comes out in a couple of weeks. hope it doesnt suck too bad.
 
of course im referring to the latest version. if i were referring to the older version, i would be using the necessary film-buff etiquette to denote it. ;)
 
ive been interested in watching this one. i have a question if anyone knows it...aint ja rule in this movie? i coulda swore i saw him in the previews...if he is in it is it one of those 5 min roles where he gets killed right away? i cant stand him and i really hope he's not in the movie for too long...does anyone know?
 
no, he actually plays a good role with many lines and screen time. he plays a role surprisingly fitting for him too. it isn't a hardcore gangsta type in it.
 
and you can't say anything wrong? ;8 foolio. he did a good job, a fuckload better than all those schmaltzy melodrama-addicted oafs combined in "Closer. " And at half the pay!
 
It was really friggin' good to see a Rated R action movie instead of all the PG13 crap they've been releasing (SWAT anyone? What a turd.)

i dont feel ethan hawke in this role (for that little glimpse) but i will reserve judgement until i can see more
 
hawke did a great job. compared to the assholes that have been taking the starring roles lately like in Closer.

why the fuck do they remake such iconic and classic films. There's just no logic in doing this again.
Original was easily one of the most atmospheric films ive ever seen. Ditto everyone else about the music.
 
eh, it was okay, typical mindless action movie. No where near as good as Training Day tho.

i know you dont like the movie " closer" so maybe you should stop mentioning it in every single post in the thread then! you think it sucks, we get the message !! get over it ;)
