Police in multi-million-dollar ecstasy haul

SYDNEY, Jan 6 AAP - Police have seized ecstasy tablets worth an estimated $7 million, they revealed today.
The 100,000 tablets were found in imported computer monitors in Sydney in a joint operation by Australian Federal Police, Customs and NSW Police.
Two men, aged 59 and 42, have been charged in relation to the seizure and are due to face Parramatta Local Court later today.
The computer monitors were part of a consignment of computer equipment airfreighted to Sydney from Malaysia on December 23.
Police said the consignment was addressed to a computer company at a fake Sydney address.
"The AFP is concerned at apparent growing use of MDMA (ecstasy) in the community as this seizure follows on the heels of a record 105kg MDMA seizure in Sydney on 8 December," AFP general manager John Lawler said in a statement.
"The tragically misguided belief of many young people that taking MDMA won't harm you is terribly wrong."
"Any doctor or health care worker will warn of the potential harm it can cause, especially given the additives that have recently been found in this lethal drug cocktail."
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Mal Brammer said the seizure was an excellent example of police fighting organised crime.
Justice and Customs Minister Amanda Vanstone praised the cooperation between the Federal Police and state agencies.
"The work done in seizing this haul of illicit drugs shows how effectively law-enforcement agencies are working together on national and state issues," Senator Vanstone said in a statement.
"It also demonstrates the commitment by the federal and state governments in attacking criminal activities in areas of mutual concern such as organised crime and illicit drugs in Australia."

I much prefer Senator Vanstone when she's talking about pills having ratsac and glass in them. She really makes me laugh.

Yep, it's Vanstone again - but at least this time she's technically correct because she doesn't actually mention what kind of impurities she's talking about. But, she can never let a chance pass to rattle that one off.

Out of curiosity, who exactly pays $70 for a pill these days? Shit, I remember paying $60 several years ago, but $70?
Perhaps this may be a rare example of a media/govt beat-up?
 
They probably estimate the number of pills by weight, and then multiply that by some 'street' price to get such a high dollar value on the bust. But, someone who's buying pills in lots of 100k is paying that much? Uh uh.
Saying "$500,000 worth of pills confiscated" is heaps less sensational than "$7M DRUG HAUL"

$70 is not what they cost on the street,
BUT
Its probably what THEY (Mz Vanstone and friends !!! ) are paying. What the fuck do they know. Thier sources of information and thier dd's are one and the same !!
of course they're gonna say there's crap in the siezed shipments.Thats what thier dd tells them! That way they will get thier gear off thier own dd's thinking they are getting a good deal. !!
They don't even know how much a bottle of fucking water costs!!!!
