STARRING : Tom Hanks, Catherine Zeta

About a guy who tries to enter the USA..However his country is under war and not recognised by the USA as a legal country...therefore he cannot gain entry into the USA nor go back..hence stuck in the airport.

I watched this movie cos I heard good things about it...my thoughts are..boring boring boring..even Tom Hanks couldnt save this one.

Anyone else seen it, and what you think?

I enjoyed it more than I expected.

"Castaway" crossed with "Catch Me If You Can".

Very light but well made entertainment.

I watched half of this on the plane on my trip home, it started stupidly - but not sure how the rest of the movie went.

it's just so unrealistic I found it stupid

bump ~ I liked it a lot. I realize it was unrealistic but it wasn't about the scenery or what was happening it was all about the developement of the character. I bellylaughed more then a few times, which if any movie can pull off then i'm happy.

i liked it too. it was definately different, but i liked watching what was going to happen to hanks' character as the movie progressed. i dont know why, but i thought it was interesting, and tom hanks is an amazing actor. i never could of pictured him w/ a russian accent.

Did not like it at all. Huge disappointment from Spielberg.

The whole movie I was wondering , how the hell did they allow all this filming inside an international airport terminal after the paranoia in the usa ? Well only after I found out that they terminal was an actual set built in a huge warehouse! Interesting factoid.

Not a bad movie but kind'a drags too much.

I don't understand how you can base your opinion on the movie based on that it's unrealistic. You also didn't see the whole thing :|How realistic are a lot of good movies? Not very, in a lot of cases.

I liked this movie, suprisingly. I didn't expect to, because I'd heard bad things about it, but generally it was fun, Tom Hank's character was likable, as was Catherine Zeta-Jones'. It was just a fun movie, imo, one I wouldn't really watch over and over again, but it was a fun lighthearted movie. :)

^^^ perhaps the words he's looking for (or implying ;)) are consistently realistic. a film like, say, star wars, might not be realistic, but at least it is consistent within its universe, observing the rules which it creates. whereas the terminal, a "true story" is supposedly entirely "real" so it doesn't have that luxury. so if it slips outside the realms of realism it can make the viewing experience somewhat difficult, disconcerting or uncomfortable?

or maybe i just wank over movies a little too much? ;)

I didn't really feel that the movie was all that unrealistic.

I also think that it's more fair to judge a movie after seeing all of it.. instead of just half ;)

if you jump on an international flight to land in another destined country, mid-air your country of origin decides to disband, of course they are going to help you out and not just stiff you. Where are the rest of the flights passengers?

the reason the real person is stuck at the airport is because he lost his passport and some other documents. if hank's character has a similar misfortune, the story would be more believable.

Although Viktor comes from the fictional country of Krakozhia, the language he speaks in the movie is Bulgarian. Hanks manages this with only a mild accent, perhaps thanks to coaching from his wife (née Margarita Ibrahimova) who is half Bulgarian. The written material shown (the Fodor's guide and the magazine page with the jazz greats) is in Russian. The label on the Planters peanuts can is neither in Bulgarian nor in Russian. Viktor's driving license is issued in Gomel, Republic of Belarus, and has a woman's name on it (written in Cyrillic).

that, imo, is why this movie sucked. Two huge names like Hanks and Spielburg producing such a load of wank is just not worth a rental.

hollywood has never been able to get all the details right... I would say 99.9% of the people watching the movie do not pick up on the irregularities in the foreign items...

While it was "based" on a true story, it was not a documentary of a true story... The director is free to fictionalize any part of it he wishes...

what was i on?

bleh this film.

I love Tom Hanks in everything else but this one sucked balls.
I couldnt get past his fake accent. It made watching it unbearable. Ugh.

there are brief moments where hanks' accent and mannerism does reflect eastern european kinds, but they are very brief

even though I don't remember too much about it since its been so long, I do remember that I liked it, tom hanks did an awsome job with the character. It seems some people don't have much of an imagination, if you watch a movie like everything is real alls you will see is a movie set and a bunch of a crappy actors..

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I put off watching it for ages as It looked kind of boring.
Although a little far fetched in places-it was entertaining and comical with an appropriately subtle message.
Catherine Zeta Jones performed rather more believably that in other films she's ruined.
