Film: Dodgeball

*sigh*

I'm glad I only paid .50 to see this, because I thought it sucked. I won't lie, I sometimes refer to metacritic.com to give me an idea of how good a movie will be, and Dodgeball earned a 52 (which is a decent score there), so I went to see it based off a score a stupid website gave it. Plus, rottentomatoes.com gave it a 69 - which IS a good score by their standards. :p

The movie is full of all sorts of lowbrow, potty humor, very innapropriate for only a PG-13 rating. There were a handful of scenes that made me crack a smile, but overall it was redundant and not funny. The cast of characters were just thrown into the movie with no build up of character.

There was one guy, a member of Vince Vaughn's gym, who lived life as a fuckin pirate. Nobody knows why he does this, he just wears pirate clothes, talks like a pirate, acts like a pirate, etc. Ben Stiller does a pretty god job of playing his role as a pompous, self-righteous jock that is at times funny and other times leaves you thinking "I swear I've seen that schtick before...?"

rate it

im sorry, i figured it would be that way from the begining of the preview, ben stiller or not

When i first heard of this and read about it a few months ago i thought it was gona be crap. Then i saw the trailer... and actually thought it mightnt be too bad after all. Now ive seen a programme about it and some clips and im not really lookin forward to it as much. OK so i havent seen it, but i dont think it can really be that good. Its a bunch of adults running around hitting each other with a soft ball and sound sound effects to make it sound like they're all gettin hit really hard and some pirate dude who says "if you can dodge traffic, you can dodge a ball" - sorry but i wont be paying £5 to see this one!

that's because thats his personality. a pompous righteous prick who thinks hes better than everyone. I swear, meet the parents and something about mary are the only movies worth watching of his. Mostly because of the OTHER characters in the movie. he's just not funny, its not fun.

what leads you to believe that "he thinks he's better than everyone"?

wow keystroke. You hit it man...this was Heavyweights 2.

Horrid film...with only 4 things I found positve.
1) the hot cheerleader
2) hot bisexuals
3) ESPN8 "The Ocho"
4) I dunno...cameos? Nevermind...there isn't a #4.

i didn't mind this. i normally hate banal comedies, but this has some cute touches and good jokes which at least makes it tolerable. stiller is fantastic, imo, when he's hamming it up (although i don't like zoolander, despite him being rather funny in it), and this is no different.

maybe vince vaughn seems a little uncomfortable at first - a little aloof - but in some ways it works with his character anyway.

this isn't anything special, and i don't think it ever tries to be. there are some fucking great cameos, too...and rip torn is genius in it :)

check out the speical features on the dvd - the alternate ending is priceless

:)

not that i mind, but the current trend in comedy is try and outgross the last movie. this might have started with dumb and dumber or kingpin. anyhow, dodgeball was a welcome deviation from this trend. good ol slapstick. ben stiller in a mustache = funny.

i have a hard time believing that the director threatened to quit over the revised ending. don't audiences love a happy ending?
