Hi folks, i wondered if any of you had any poitive/negative stories for using zyban to stop smoking/vaping? or any other drug related to stopping smoking?

I have asthma and i used to get 1 x ventolin inhaler per month, they have now cut this to one every three months and it's revealed my asthma isn't controlled that well, i have an asthma clinic appointment next week and thought about asking for help.

I have tried and failed many times with will power alone.

Thank you kind people.

Wel there was one drug that got me off smoking, Cytisine the active alkaloid in Golden Rain [a bushy plant/ yellow hanging flowers].
Its has an stronger binding affinity as Nicotin on the nicotinic/ acetylcholine receptors and lasts quite long.
So during its action it 100 % blocks the effects of Nicotin, so instead of relieve from a smoke,
its just like you are without any purpose inhaling smoke.

It makes it basickly pointless that day after you took that pill.
You wil have to use some will power too, and if you relapse keep some at hand to stop it in its tracks.

Its in the same realm as Varenicline, the prescription variety. But in Roemenia Cytisine is sold under the name Tabex, a wellknown working remedy worldwide.

Bupropion which was prescribed to me for ADHD, didnt stop me from smoking. Also has no nicotinic/ acetcholine receptor agonistic blocking effects but antagonizes it. Wonder what effect that has on smoking, but have no clue on its binding affinity. So that are two points that make me wonder why its supposedly can help stop smoking. Maybe that helps you a bit in a direction for a search 50shadesofDave.

And its also a Norepinephrine Reuptake inhibitor and Dopamin, but ime to a way lesser degree.
Its works pharmacology wise very different in the brain then Cytisine, and had no effets on my ADHD.

I didn't use xyban but my doctor offered it. I used champix instead and that worked great. After 4 weeks I didn't crave cigarettes at all.
When my mom was dying I stupidity started smoking again
Apparently they both work the same. I just used champix because a few people I know used it and it worked.

Thanks for your replies folks.

My cousin tried champix and ended up trashing his car through a golf course fence, he is a straight catholic type and he remembers nodding around 10 seconds before blacking out and trashing his car.

I assumed there were bad side effects to champix.

I've only decided this morning to give up totally.

My problem is i use benzos which i'm trying to reduce atm, i don't do any other drugs or alcohol, although i did have a spliff a couple of weeks back.

would you steer clear of smoking cessation drugs due to the benzo use?

I'm on benzos and used champix. I know someone who took benzos with xyban. Champix didn't make me sleepy but you have to have something in your belly or you will get sick. Weird dreams are a side effect but everyone is different

I used Zyban and it worked great, when you move on too taking two pills a day I took the first one at 5:00am when I get up and the second around 2:00 pm,,if I took the second pill later than that I wasn’t able to go to sleep till after midnight,my usual bedtime is early around 9:00,,maybe look into getting some trazadone if that happens to you….

If you check the facts you ll see they are not alike.

Varenicline/ Champix and the latest pharmaceutical addition Cytisinicline both also agonists with higer affinity then Nicotin. Both however are just patentable forms of Cytisine. These 3 are very alike, but my experience is with Cytisine.

Bupropion seems more for a select group of smokers. Maybe those for who despite the blocking keep smoking?

Cytisine sounds better then varenicline with those descibed side effects. Maybe it can cause them too and my stomach is of iron, but i had no side effects from Tabex/ Cytisine. Only noticeable thing was a Nicotin like feeling the first day.

I never said they were alike. All of them have side effects and everyone is different in terms of the side effects they give.

Sorry must have mis-interpretated that part saying "Apparently they both work the same".

And your right bout personal chemistry but Varenicline is notorious for belly problems 29 %, Cytisinicline has a occurence of less then 10 %, Cytisine might even be lower.

It seems champix has been removed from prescribing in the uk.
I remember asking a doctor for it 15 years ago, in the US, and he literally just said "fuck no". Looked at me as if I asked him for scolopamine therapy or something.

The side effect profile of champix is bizarre and extreme. My doctor thought it more beneficial for me to continue smoking at that age than to give me champix....

I was reading on a group that a couple of people had full on datura style hallucinations from champix. Theres also the suicide risk

Personally zyban didnt work at all for me

Personal side note... I experimented with mulungu bark (has interesting but modest anxiolytic and sedative effects).

The principle alkaloid is a nicotinic receptor antagonist, which mediates the sedative effect.... I also noticed it has the side effect of making tobacco less pleasurable, probably through being a nicotinic antagonist.

I have speculated it may have some use in quitting tobacco, but by itself it's really not that powerful of a drug.

It gives a unique high, that's for sure.
