Benzos Zolpidem is 40mgs too much?

My girlfriend is taking 40mgs of zolpidem to get her to relax & eventually fall asleep. Is this too much? She wakes up feeling sluggish but then it wears out. She takes 40mgs. about once or twice a month.

That depends on whether she's taking it for recreational purposes or primarily to induce sleep.
If it's mostly to get to sleep then it's a very large dose for sure. 5-10, maybe 15 mg, should be enough to induce sleep in most, but Zolpidem just doesn't work that well for some people. I use 5-10 mg to induce sleep but once took 30 mg to see what the fuzz was about. Had a really interesting experience but it definately wasn't theraputical by any means.

That's a huge dose don't take that much no wonder she is drowsy tell her to try to get to 10mgs maybe 20mgs that should give less side effects.
